    Porsche 911 turbo vs Bike

Allright people, as some of you may already know I've recently started my new job at Porsche. Today I was talking to one of the salesmen about what would be faster, a new Porsche 911 Turbo or a large sports bike and this guy 'guarunteed' me that the new 911 turbo would beat a bike in a race, either around a track or a drag. I was hoping if some of you would have something to say about this. I offered him a challenge and his response was "we dont have a new 911 turbo at the moment" and I asked would you accept if we got ahold of a new one, his reply was "Im sure management would intervene if we did". I argued with him for quite a while and he still held his opinion that the Porsche would beat a big bike, I would be bloody happy if someone would be able to prove hime wrong. And im sure he'd scuttle off with his tail between his legs if Porsche lost as well.

Here's one the bike would win:

7:45am Monday morning - Otahuhu to Ponsonby along Southern Motorway - even my VTR250 would piss all over a Porsche 911 Turbo aong that route.

On a standard race track the car will be able to corner faster - acceleration from zero the bike will have an advantage due to power to weight ratio - traditionally all track records are held by 4 wheels not 2.

In short bikes require more talent to ride. You might find a bike that will beat it over a quarter of a mile though.

Around the track, not a contest, the Porker wins reasonably comfortably. So much more rubber on the road, brake much later, corner faster. That's been done to death by so many people it's not funny. Have a search around these forums or YouTube for car vs bike around a racetrack...

In a drag race though, depending on the bike, it's a different story. Good rider on a decent machine should be able to win the drag race.

The 911 has a shit load of traction on the rear wheels,so even a drag would be questionable.

But the defining test is - you can't afford a Porsche 911.So have fun on your cheap bike, and have to change clothes and comb your hair when you get to work.

And in a 911 you can pick any chick you like up from the curb....no matter what she is wearing.

I'm putting this on here saying that

    >R1 Beats it in the starting drag
    >R1 is in fact not the 'cream' of bikes and leaves a lot to be desired from,Ninja Gixxer and Fireblade
    >Look at the price difference of the vehicles
    >I bet the bike had a lot more fun doing this
    >I have more to bitch on the topic

Im still holding my opinion that a bike would beat the car overall.

Damn the car is hell nice, but be damned forkin' out 200k for the thrill, the bike though not as quick on the corners, gotta be a greata feelin.

As has been said, the car will be quicker around corners. Drag race would be pretty close, new 911 Turbo will do 0-100 in around 3.8 seconds I think (4.0s for the manual).
Where do you work, Conti's or Giltraps?

More like $320k for the car in question!

Like I said, and has been done to death on here... it won't. You're entirely welcome to defend bikes honour, hell, I do, and we all know you need a somewhat steelier sack to ride a bike fast than to drive a car fast... but the simple fact is most of the time a fast car is faster than a fast bike around a racetrack. It's not really something bikes can change either, just because of the disparity in the amount of rubber on the road. But... could you find a car for the same price as a brand new GSXR1000 ($19,995) that could beat it around the track? Hell, no. Is the bike having more fun, even if it loses? Hell yes. Could justabout anyone drive the car pretty damn fast, while it takes a skillful rider to be fast on track? You bet.

Most of us on here love bikes, but we also know that round the track the car should win most of the time.

mabey we are looking at this the wrong way. how about a jawa 350 vs a lada samara?
FYI about the drag strip thing - how many cars come out of the box with a 10 sec 1/4? cos i know a few bikes that do. Not even a std Porsche can do that.

I've got a video clip of a ZX10 vs Porche vs F16 on a runway in europe somewhere. Bike first off then jet passes it like it was stopped and about a month later the Porche passes with higher top speed.

On a drag strip, the bike wins provided you can keep the front wheel down. Whether or not the bike wins on the track depends on the circuit. Taupo for instance would not be a good idea!

In the real world the Porsche gets stuck behind a truck!
