Well I was thinking of lawyers - but my lawyer is a really cool dude so I retract that statement.

Doesn't matter if it's 4x4 or not (I've got a 4x4 too y'know) it would probably have to back off the proportioning to the front anyway.Any 911 would have more available traction than just about any other vehicle on the road from a standing start.It has weight in all the wrong places.....except for getting off the line....probably kill clutches though.

I don't get this. So you think they are good or bad? All Porsches from the 993 on are very well sorted machines with great weight distribution considering where the engine is. Not many Porsches will kill their clutches, of course the drongo driving it is probably capable of killing the clutch but that can be done in any high powered car that has a lot of traction.

A rear engine Porsche (all the way back to the Volkswagon) has a lot of weight at the rear,a lot of polar inertia.Yes the modern ones are well sorted,but it has taken decades,not years.I mean they are good for traction over the rear wheels....more traction than a 300hp front wheel drive.If the wheels don't slip,the clutch will.....and of course the clutch is built to take it,but it will take more punishment than the same HP through the front wheels,just because it can take more power.

Funny you should say that but many years ago, I owned an RZ500 at the same time a mate owned an RS500 (the real deal here) Cossie Sierra.
While we never lined them up, I went in that when he was running about 500hp.
Goddamn it was quick !!!!!!!!!
My RZ500 would have been beaten for sure !!

I argued with him for quite a while and he still held his opinion that the Porsche would beat a big bike, I would be bloody happy if someone would be able to prove him wrong.

Here's a link to video that a couple of mates filmed at the Nurburging a couple of years ago. They're quick lads, 'ring regulars, and both on litre sports bikes. Towards the middle of the lap you'll see that they meet Sabine in her BMW Ring Taxi, then at about 5'20" into the video a Porker joins in the fun.

I have to say, I was blown away by the performance of the Porkers when I did the 'ring last year... scared the hell out of me knowing they were inches away from my rear wheel and wanting the line I was taking... f***ing good fun though

A mate of mine (He's now married to my ex) Had a Porsche 911/ 996 non turbo & a Ducati 999s both at the same time until his wench (HaHa,whos laughing now sucker) made him sell them.
The Porsche even as a non turbo absolutely urinated on the 999 in every situation gauranteed.

I don't think so Bob. The 999 would nail the Porsche it in a straight line. With both on the edge, the Porsche would out break and out corner the 999.

I raced a Sierra Cosworth against my RZ500. RZ was dead cold, and took a block to come on song... but I wasn't gonna lose RZ 1, Sierra Cosworth nil

They are both ROAD vehicules so what would happen on a real road?
Not european motorways or even SH1 and over an interesting distance say 1000kms.

That would be an interesting race for the top gear guys ....

On one of the Ghost Rider videos he takes on a BMW Roadster. Not exactly sure of the model, but the voice over claims its BMs best, and being driven by a top swedish race driver.

On real swedish roads in real traffic he seldom has to pass 5000 rpm to keep on its ass. On a couple of big sweeping roundabouts it gets away, but its easily pulled in by the bike.

At other points in the video, swedish police are chasing him. They appear to be in 300HP V70s - not super-cars, but still seriously fast. He lets them catch up, and then waves ta-ta over and over.

So..

Cars out-brake bikes (just)
Cars out-corner bikes (easily)
Bikes out-accelerate cars (easily 0-80, less easily 0-160)
Bikes out-manoevure cars (easily, more traffic the better)
Bikes have equivalent, or faster top speeds
I can afford a Bike

lucky bastards and your ability to own an rz500. I raced my sisters ex agaisnst his street dragcar (Sunbird, 430hp 350 chev, fibreglass tail, stage 2 box) against my lowly RZ250 - i had him till about 120, but i was still a rookie as this was only my first road bike.
By the time i was allowed to buy an RZ500 they cost more than the average r1
Got the sunbird owner back 2 years later with the RG150, while my rg was getting tuned to perfection, his sunbird was getting neglected. At dragwars 1 night the challenge was put up and i ran a 13.8.....he ran a 14.2 everyone gave him shit cos it used to be an 11 sec car.

RZ500 was my first big bike... brought it the day I turned 18. Would like another... but they're pretty slow and heavy compared to anything made in the last 5 years (at least). Nothing sound quite like them though... I was tempted to buy the two for sale here recently, but... it's a big $$$$ commitment to restoring them. To really get the most out of my two stroker dreams, I suspect I'd actually be better off building a 300cc NSR with the Tyga hop up bits. Probably make more power than the RZ, and half the weight

I read a article in MOTOR magazine some time last year, new porche 911 turbo vs r1 round a track, the r1 beat it by a small margin. They also had a bit in the following magazine about a race on a different track, the bike won again but they were close.
It had speed readouts while round the track, the car held better mid and entry corner speed but couldnt match the bike out of the corner. All depends on track and rider/driver really.
