and yes... will try to get a pass card for Sunday. Will still be working on getting out Saturday though. And no Ratti, I didn't tell him, he knows me too well to know that I would not be choosing to stay at home on a lovely fine weekend day. Not when I have a new toy that still needs to be broken in

Over the Takas, round Western Lake, Lake Ferry lunch, Martinborough coffee, Gladdy for Ale, Home?
Sounds like a great plan.
Keen as to go for a blat this weekend and I can do any of the three days I think.
There is also the 4x4 winch competition on at Rallywoods on the 5th and 6th (another one of my favourite events). She is going to be a good weekend.

Ha, I have a legit excuse - helping family shift. I'm driving the rental truck.
Ah well - if the weather up to it, I will be happy to ride again on Sunday if you get leave pass then:sunny:
Could be a starter for Sunday. If the new tyre hasnt turned up for the Tiger I will have to take the Bonny for a run. Yes, its good to have 2 bikes. Practically a necessity.

I hate the Hill full stop, so we can just gently cruise down. No one can ride fast on there these days, always a campervan or people mover determined to keep everyone else crawling at 10mph.

Yeah that's a pain. I went in and realized I forgot my proof of address so had to go back. Good thing was that I booked it yesterday afternoon and sat the test today. I guess with this weather, not to many people want to do it

here are some tips - they sure helped me. Grip tank with knees, Keep weight on balls of feet, light hands on bars, these three things will help keep the weight well back and off the front wheel. Dont ask me how it works. I found a huge improvement in riding down that hill when i started doing these things.
Cheers. Any tips are appreciated. Not sure about the balls of feet thing on the cruiser tho

I will be on Ducky so Have a similar problem. On a cruiser, suggest you sit back on your tailbone, crunch your gut muscles to support yourself and take the weight off your handlebars. That gives you a normal range of aiming around the corners without leaning on the bars. It really makes a difference, Ive got heaps more confidant since someone told me about this trick. Still crap at downhill corners, but better than I was.
Cheers. Any tips are appreciated. Not sure about the balls of feet thing on the cruiser tho
Those tips dont apply to cruisers
Just go down in the same gear as if you were going up, and look where you want to go.

Don't worry about it. Slow is good too, and the more you do that hill the more comfortable you will get on it. the secret with the cruiser is basically just to take things a lot slower than all the kids playing on their sports bikes :). I usually take it on the slower side up there, especially now that the new bikes scraps its pegs on almost every corner. Take a slightly wider approach into the corner too. I have to do this as my bike is much longer than my last one and it takes a lot more to turn the weight into the corner. And its all about the gears and very little breaking downhill as Devo said. I pretty much stay in one gear up and down except of the tighter corners that I need to take even slower. A do look right round the corner, your bike will follow in that direction.
If I do make it out (please please please) I'll hang at the back with you if ya like and take it nice and slow, you could possibly follow me around the corners? But my lines are rather rubbish, but they do work for me on the cruiser. I'll chat to you about your feet on your bike too, I'm learning how to put weight into my pegs and touch on the back break which makes you settle very nicely into a down hill corner.
mmmmm now to try and make it for the Saturday ride! :(

All of the above richard.. when you get to meet these AWESOME people on these rides, you'll soon learn that they all have some pretty super advice. And I would highly recommend attending a Prorider course when you can. Have done 2 and they were fantastic! I'm soaking up all the adice that I can get and it all helps. I'm still just a newby, and have a looooong way to go, but am learning to be more comfortable out there on me bike, and having an absolute blast!
I'll let you know if I'll be there as soon as poss.

The reason this works is that you are putting no weight/holding on to tight to the bars. Holding on to tight is basically putting incorrect movement into the bars and is SR (Survival Reaction) number 2. This action will make you go wide in the corner. Info courtesy of Keith Codes Twist of the Wrist II.
Amazing the information that is out there.

okay gals and guys - a wee ride on Saturday to the Ferry for lunch. Meet at top of Takas at 11am. kapiti riders - is this about 9.30 depart from Pram rail and 10.30 from rimutex? Nice easy cruise down the hill for all, regroup at Western Lake turn off, then round Western Lake to Lake ferry for lunch, back to Marty for coffee, then either to Gladdy for cleansing ale, or homewards.

Seriously - not much fun rides around here without a haul on SH1 to get there. Come some longer days we could turn on an event for you strange foreign types.... I'd do it now but we are not ready, the locals are still trying to weave a border post out of hemp and our mounted patrols are finding the Llamas a bit frisky all of which resulted in a headache so they are having a smoke and a wee lay down..

Good stuff... I had me little thing done without sedation so I can drive and operate heavy machinery... Which frankly is a testament to the efficiency of modern medicine because i couldn't operate heavy machinery before went in.. Perhaps I should consider a HD ?? Anyway, going by intial results I've got a few other things to consider in the right now... Drat.... But not riding motorbikes aint one of em.. Yippee...
Anywho... If you want I can swing past coastlands car park on the way. I will be going to BP to get some gas first so no drama.... Frankly - there will likely be a frost tonight so I wouldnt be wanting to blast over the hill too early...
Well, just got the phone call from the wife...we HAVE to go to the hospital tomorrow to see her nana....seems to me she (nana) has been on the death bed too long though, someone needs to change the sheets....tough old biddy though I give her that...

Its hidden on a back street.
Normally (well for the TCWN rides anyway) Kapiti riders meet at the Mobil Sation by the lights - right there on SH1 where anyone new or from out of the area can find it. And you can even top up your tank (and tummy) there too. (BP is across the road for those that like that flavour.)
I suggest we make this the standard meeting place (like Rimutex)

Good to catch up Paul ;-)
Yeah - I went a bit longer than I was going to but got home in time to pick up the gear for tomorrows little project so all good.
I left the bunch at featherston and headed to martytown for an early lunch. Chatted to a very nice couple riding a very very nice old Z ... had lunch and got yapping when Mr and Mrs Hitcher rocked up... Yapped some more then ambled home in a dignified manner to the top of the Paekakareki hill where there was a huge number of hang gliders n shit and two old school triumph choppers - naturally got yapping again...
What a nice day out...
One thing struck me... Coming down the hill (takas) on the featherston side I ended up in front of the main bunch, what, 20 + bikes behind a pretty long line of cars held up by Mr or Mrs cautious... I thought, well whats the point of illeagally passing all those bloody cars 1 at a time 'cos once I get past the last one I will be at featherston. (a 1970 Triumph 650 does not quite have the squirt a GSXR does).. Bugger me if everyone behind didn't form up in a group and amble along happily behind... (I didn't realise you were ALL there for a bit).... WELL done, admirable restraint shown as imagine the mess all those bikes would have made weaving past all those cars... Take a bow you lot...
Desides - too nice a day to waste in outpatients.... or explaining things to Mr Plod as some poor sod was doing on the way back.
So all in all an agreeable day invested in mucking about on a old bike - is there anything finer in the world...
(ps - for a KAPITI ride where 5 of us left Kapiti this am there we attracted a hell of a big fan club!

Now I have learnt even though my bike is less than a year old, it still can break down and I should carry more tools than just a cellphone.

Dukegirl and myself called into the Pram Mobil at 9.00am, a bit to early buy the looks.
Went up to Masterton to look at a bike up there. So we desided to keep heading North, not to waste a good day.
Route was. Dreyers rock, Alfredton,Pongaroa, Wimbleton (for Lunch) Porangahau, Waipukurau. Then back Hatuma Ormondville, Ashurst and home.
Roads were in good nick, no traffic, and worries about the 104klms hr tickets, only trouble with doing that road at this time of year is the SUN, riding into it all day is pretty tough going, and lots of corners wet in the shade.
Hope to catch up with you guys soon, but i do like the longish rides.

OK, Will need an early start, say 9-30am at the whorehouse carpark coastlands, this will put us on right side of highway to head Nth, cofee at Sanson, on to Anzac Dve and regroup prior to Paraparas, regroup at Ratahi or Raratonga if u get lost or miss a turn of, talk about the return there as it would be time sensitive.

If you havnt been before then Sate Highway one is the quickest and easiest. Takes about 4 hours depending on how long you stop at Kaikoura etc.
If you have time, you can come home by going over Athurs Pass to the west Coast and back up the Buller Gorge. A great round trip. (or do it the other way round)
Hey Dennis Mobil at the lights has aways been the best meeting place ,don't want any more cock up over the root
I tend to agree. Having 3 meet up points in Kapiti can get confusing (Mobil, Warehouse, Railway Stn) How about we just stick to Mobil on the highway?

What a great day on saturday. No dramas that I have heard about, apart from Neshi getting away on us that is. Ducky pootled along nicely, Denis? Would you consider bringing your hyperscoot next time so we can show these go fasts how a real bike performs?
I had to head home early as I had a gig that night, so didnt get a chance to extend an invitation properly...
I've marked on the event calendar an invitation to my midwinter scoff on 26th June. Details are there so if you are interested, you can check in and I'll pm you fairly soon.

And you do learn to love that hill too. The more you do it, the more you just want to keep going over it. My new quick escape it to head over to Graytown to the white swan for some bread and a drink, then back again, just for the excuse of a trip over that hill! I find it to be a very fun road, and completely agree - each visit to the Rapa and I too fall in love with it more.
