Get in line.
Starting to save now, a GP race meet at a larger track could even be committed to now for everyone, but there is no heart to want to go there. Just wanted to get that cleared up.
I won't be coming back to video another Ground Hog Day, or spending my money towards a benefit concert for one person. Hope you enjoyed the dog-tags, they are collectors items now...
Sorry but you dont have a fucking clue !!
all tracks have been discussed in detail with organizers and its a massive risk we cant afford..
or spending my money towards a benefit concert for one person.
What the fuck are you saying ???? do you think we as organizers are bias ??? I honestly am struggling with this Seymour, how many other people think this ??

Yeah I just rolled my eyes and said what the fuck out loud. Frankly I try not to look at this thread anymore as it just pisses me off when people go on the personal attacks. Its not doing anything positive for the sport.

This thread was about what the hillbillies were up to in Palmy nth.
Many exciting bucket related bits, builds and even some suggestions have come through this thread over the last few years.
Some excitement is surfacing as news has finally hit hillbilly land....
Suzuki has upgraded the FXR150 motor - the engine has always been used in underbone chassis line the Suzuki Raider and the later Satria 150 (FU150). The FXR was a bastard child of this concept (a market that died off).
In south east Asia underbone racing is one of the key classes; those that have followed the Asia telant cup and other preMotogp classes will already know this.
I've been a little slow on the uptake this year, but it seems the Suzuki have upgraded to Satria 150 in response to Yamaha domination in the underbone classes.
Enter the Satria F150 Injeksi (injected).
http://monkeymotoblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/02/Mesin-Satria-F.jpg
Those with a keen eye will note that it is watercooled...
Same bore and stroke.
Looks the business to me, maybe a trip is in order... Or just encourage Suzuki that they would be great here; even if they used the FXR chassis. (Or the proposed GSXR150).
A few more pics of the motor here:
https://www.google.co.nz/search?q=Injeksi&client=safari&hl=en-nz&prmd=inv&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&fir=Mh_TT-OAPmQ9tM%253A%252CKR-sGHptRPy6lM%252C_%253BA2RG0HgpeHlE5M%253A%252Ca7BI 1gvZZ2xO0M%252C_%253B-czlUpqwWAvfJM%253A%252CBi9wabizotptLM%252C_%253Bna jv2hsVADFoVM%253A%252CiYCtfXLj-WSueM%252C_%253BA5LY1jtD5J0FmM%253A%252Cxzqv7lLUE9 4o3M%252C_%253BscB7Pc5hUUxU0M%253A%252C6BjAjdFgkwB r9M%252C_%253B55m8fB7tFupS4M%253A%252Cs-we6vgOCKxcpM%252C_%253BBF42gIZ81mFjwM%253A%252CYbN umCJaaa9F3M%252C_%253BbOgjMUII-ZX1RM%253A%252CkgkTD9YVFlxATM%252C_%253BxNj2zqdCnS AJdM%253A%252CtKiMjZ5cX6741M%252C_&usg=__PsQOb8qrJ3RMDgqwzJw0dnZpZAM%3D&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwif_Ofzg-rNAhXME5QKHYAqCxwQ420IPg&biw=768&bih=928&dpr=2#imgdii=x7HZUB3C49bh9M%3A%3BnWc5SJyhPFoF1M%3A %3BnWc5SJyhPFoF1M%3A&imgrc=nWc5SJyhPFoF1M%3A

Most of those were the older air cooled (FXR motors).
Likely most of those drag engines will have the 10mm stroked crank and 72mm piston kits... Not really 150cc..
But man I'd love to get off the line like that...

Yip it's the original one you rode. However you need to count the number of Carbs and Exhausts...

Where did we start from.
However, while GPR001 (SVR650) and GPR002 (VFR400) had already rolled off the Griffiths production line; this one GPR003 is what kicked off Team GPR. Half way through the build (which was actually a TZR250 engined F3 bike); I ran into issues mounting the TZR100 engine into my TZ125 frame. Suggestion was made to mount it temporally into the F3 chassis for the GP...
The lads got real keen to get back into buckets GPR004 rolled off the line shortly after, Regan and Myself had our first race on both bikes at the last Taupo GP. Scotty then when nuts and started smashing out frames / dynos and then engines.

we found another model that fitted I think but not the smoking gun pretty sure Honda being Honda it will be off the front of a DJ1 or something
Re Spyda it looked BMW disk but the center spacing for the bolts was all wrong........
it also would not fit a EPM wheel either. So no idea.... Who made late 70's bmw disks?
It was a pretty good guess about those smoothbores just from a tiny pic aye.
Send me a jig picture and i will look for spydas disk.

Don't get me wrong - I DO like the bike. Back in the day, there was a form of almost intimidation went on where you'd see someone turn up with a 250mm Fontana front brake on perhaps a 250. The visible intent was - try and outbrake this, sonny....
I can see you cutting brake pads to make it controllable.

For the benefit of those struggling with that attatchment. 3 classes run together, Scott second over the line behind a good KR150 well ridden, and in front of a bunch of development class bikes which was led by an Aprilia 125....Next bucket a wee way back.

The knee hooks amuse me. The old man and his mates used them on their speedway irons in the 30's - leg trailing on cinders. The only points of rider attatchment to the bike were the bars and the knee hook.

I have that one as well, pretty sure it was in an aussie mag, but if i was to find that one, would cost him a alloy seat unit as well, LOL
That one above was about 97. The other was about 88 or so.
Pretty sure it has a full write up on the HKS engine, either that or i have one of those as well.

Never knew Jim Kibbelwhite was a kiwi...
The whole motorace thing with "equal" engines reminds me very much of stories from Kiwis who went to the UK and raced in the Speedway leagues there.
JAP of course had the engine supply side tied up despite several other companies trying to break in.
I'm told that once you were a first division rider with some history behind you, you went to JAP in Tottenham and asked to see the right person...If you were lucky and they liked you, you were able to buy a "good" motor...
They were all bench tested with the aim of a standard 47bhp. Less than that went for rectification. More than that got tucked away for issue to the favoured riders - at a slight price premium of course.
I've heard that it was when Barry Briggs got offside with JAP and was denied the good engines that he got interested in the ESO....and changed the whole balance of power.

Re birth of GPR002.
Back to where we all start. In fact maybe back to the origins of the new generation super buckets.
I've been a a little bit of a loss now cricket has finished (sport chosen to loose some weight and fit my race suit again) and all the paper work for VMCC winter series has been handed over (and man chores are done)...
Today I've been banished from the house. So, what to do?
Well time to restart my R150 project.
The engine has been sitting under the bench for 18months, plus a box of goodies. Aftermarket programable fuel injection ECU, larger throttle body, cams, big valve head.
It was destined for a sidecar project.
But you can never have too many F4 bikes.
I've been considering asking GPRNZ to build a new frame. But, this lovely little engine fits into old trusty GPR002.
Those that rode the original GPR100, will know this frame is one of the sweetest handling setups that GPRNZ ever built. Mated with a killer R150 water cooled engine - this combo is destined for great things.
Game on.

Not sure if it would make a good GP track, might be a bit simple, be interesting to hear what others think. We investigated the possibility of track two at Taupo for the GP next year but the track hire was enough that if we didn't get huge entries it would clean us out completely. About $4500 a day I think.

My opinion is that one year a cart track, next year a big track. With two years notice, most people would not struggle for an entry fee of say $150 dollars to get the chance to race on a bigger track. It would most certainly get a contingent up from the South Island too I would expect.
With two years notice it is saving 25 cents a day... (please feel free to stretch this amount to 50 cents a day if you want to double the money, it is still not a hassle).
The GP was once a comfortable one day of racing. It wouldn't hurt to do this once every two years.
Thoughts...

Thoughts... Yep, stick it on a big track occasionally and I'll be there as I'm sure will a number from the mainland. In terms of cost, could it not be run in conjunction with another club meeting, like we do the BOB down here which is run over lunch time and usually means a big number of buckets swelling the entries and club coffers for the day? I did one at Taupo where it was simply part of a club race meeting if my memory serves me right

That (if we're talking the same bike) is my little xl100. I go hot and cold on it, but I think it is back on. An adjustable steering head was made some time back, adjustable in that it can be bolted on one way or upside down, giving two slightly different rake angles, big track or cart track.
The frame will be two offset aluminium plates, suitably machined and lightened, I may even use the new laser cutter that has turned up at work to do these. The aim is to make a fully alloy bike, minus the obvious slabs of steel that rotate, or power the wee mite...
The laser cutter is the reason it is probably back on, my CNC has a mere 500mm X Axis movement, it wasn't cutting the mustard, nor the ally in this instance!
Will document the progress...thanks Husa!

Well it was close. He looked like he was having truck loads of fun slipstreaming the 390's and 250 4s. The big around the outside moves were great to watch. only 0.24 off. It survives a little longer.

Yip, your record lives to fight another day.
He got into a tangle in the first race, which put paid to that. Next race it blew quite hard, especially on the back straight where he said the thing just hit a wall coming onto it unless he was close behind a wind break rider. Last race rained 5 minutes before it started, but that was his best as it brought a few bikes back in line with his.
Very obvious though that the 250's and 390's had the legs on him the majority of the time down the straights. Regs was still smiling though as he always does.

Big smiles all day.
Dusted up a few of the riders, but showed a few of them some great corner lines (and what speed is possible). :msn-wink:

Yeah, and he got the black board for it too. Even though he was several metres back from where he was meant to be anyway.
Never have figured out what a jump start from behind a starting position represents. Maybe he should have got a 20 second advantage board...lol!

I should make a wooden former one day
Looking at a couple of Aermacchi tanks which came from Bartels in Northern Ireland, they're welded up from 4 or 5 pressed pieces.
For low volume presswork in alloy, wooden press formers are adequate.
A mate here who has made several tanks for me always does a skeleton former - like a boat's ribs - that he can clamp the pieces to when welding.
He'll be retiring from the port company where he drives straddles very soon and he's probably going to work from home doing tanks.
He welds his using oxy/acetylene....old school stuff.

After many years, we can officially say that Buckets are back in Palmy. Really nice turn out, especially from the Wellington contingent, so I videoed the last race of the day.
The weather was a bit average, my camera is a dog, but anything is better then nothing! Patience was a virtue as riders waited for a 2 hour Kart race to take its course, but I hope everyone felt it was worth it.

I had an rmx250 that did that. It was caused bu the fingers of the clutch basket being worn into a serrated pattern by the clutch plates. A quick rub with a file and all was peachy again.

They serve the function of a Marcel spring - which is a cushion spring to soften engagement. I'd ditch them.
I leave them in the big, late model motors as they're hard on boxes - but a bucket is a different story.
I had to go to my copy of "Clutch and Flywheel Handbook" to get the name of the spring - bastard for making me think on a Sunday morning !!
