Far as I'm Aware, Off the Rails (as most of us are!!) is the 1st weekend in April and the Beaumont is the last weekend in April......Its the publicans (gus's) Last year there, so its bound to be a good un, working both of those Saturday mornings, so calling in favours or going sick, anything to get there, as I am a rally junky

2008 Taieri Wings and Wheels Event
Including the annual Tiger Moth Club National rally
The Otago Aero Club will be holding its annual Wings and Wheels event at Taieri Airport, Mosgiel on Saturday 23rd February 2008 and Sunday 24th February.
I saw the Tiger Moths fly over St Clair today, about five of them, very cool!
I'm off to see the show tomorrow, I love stuff like that.
It's a pity my Survival KLR isn't dirty enough to enter as an exhibit yet!

I went to Wings and Wheels and there were three bikes. One of them was mine.
A Suzuki Intruder, a 1975 Honda 4, and my Mad Max thing.
There was a whole section reserved for motorcycles, but only three turned up, kinda funny.
My bike got a lot of attention though, mostly from primary-school aged boys who couldn't belive their eyes.
I got sunburned and hot, but it was an interesting little show. Worth $5 I guess.

Mint day to be out today! Just went out Brighton and over the road to Waihola. Brilliant weather out there and bugger all wind. Few bikers out too, including a pink 2 stroke something sports bike (either that or its 4 stroke and really needs to be looked at)

Just a reminder for anyone not going to the Hare that the official opening of Finlayson Rd after it has been sealed is scheduled for 11:30am on Sunday at a point about halfway between Waihola and Taieri Mouth (beside Galloway Rd) - providing the day is OK I intend to have the Tiger ready to charge through the tape about the time Mayor Juno cuts the ribbon - I suggested to him today that he brings a sword and sits on the back of my bike - with his weight we should be able to go over the tape on the back wheel with him swinging the sword!! - didn't seem to appeal to his sense of adventure:wacko:

Talk about fucking ropeable, took the 87 gpx 750 to teviot st, vtnz, dunedin for a wof this morn and it failed, fair enough on the front brake lever not switching on the brake light. a bit unfair that they couldn't find my vin plate,a fail. and then i find out after 13yrs of wof they suddenly tell me its an american import first reged in 1995 and the headlight assy is dipping on the wrong side so another point failed, first and last time i go there. where the fuck am i gunna get a warrantable headlite assy for a 87 gpx? as this is gonna be my ONLY form of transport to and from timaru i'm screwed.and yeah i know its a bit :Offtopic:but had to gripe somewhere.

Have a look in the back of a KiwiRider magazine - theres always some Australian bike wreckers that advertise in there as well as the odd NZ one - they have websites and email so you should be able to pick something up pretty quickly that way, and with the courier services available you'll get the bits just as fast as from Auckland. Good luck

Just get a temporary headlight assy, any old thing $10 off trademe, bolt it on for the Wof and take it off again once you get home. it's annoying to have to do that but that's the cheap way.
I did my WOF at that VTNZ a month ago, and I stayed with the guy as he did it, he seems to know what he's doing. How could they miss the VIN plate though? Was it hidden or something?

4th March 2008, 20:56
Well......after calming down a bit i managed to sneak away from work early to get up to oamaru where i have my parts bike stored, and although i dont remamber it having a headlight, when i got up there, there was a plastic one (Stanley brand i think) sitting under the tarp, it is slightly different than the glass one but hopefully it might work to pass a wof, then maybe i put the glass one back in. found the vin plate, as per usual it was under the last side cover i looked under, vtnz didnt even take any covers off. and after the mechanical therapy off swapping the lights over i managed to fix my micro switch for the brake lights. now its time to study for tomorrows exam so off to make a coffee.
thanks for all your advise

yay it worked. one new wof gained. heres one happy chappie today.
Inspectors aren't supposed to remove parts from a vehicle for the purpose of an inspection. Supposed to be visual only.
And the light cutting off to the wrong side is fair enough, its like shining on high to people on the road when you're on dip

the inspector gave me permission to take the vin plate off and rivet it on to the frame under the seat for ease of access in the future. and as it was my first time getting a bike wof for 10-12 years things have changed slightly.

Hey how's the RS turning out? What you expected? Riding it to uni every day, how's that on a 2-stroke?
hey mate.
yea well its good and bad as i expected from a trademe buy. but i couldnt turn down a good price always wanted one for my first bike.
the good: the bike looks awesome and runs fairly well. and i think my general happyness to now own a bike off sets ne dissapointments that arise i just hope the novalty doesnt wear off.
the bad: wouldnt start for the first few days i had it. and after a mate of mine helped me push it up a large hill 6 times at 5am so i culd ride it down and push start it we got it going. UNFORTUNATELY he was on it wen it started and went to drive it round came back 20mins later and had been in an accident. some tossa in a "blue wrx with gold wheels" came sliding round a corner he was heading into and almost took him out he had to swerve to avoid getting hit resulting in a beautiful mess on my right fairing. he was a lil banged up and felt guttered about the damage which includes front indicators gone rear brake pedal has been bent inward and the clutch lever has been snapped in half. the bike idles a little low for my liking which isnt a biggie and the bike wont start if it hasnt been ridin. battery is fine but is being drained over night...have no idea by what so may need to take it to an auto electrician. dont care about fairing damage figured it would happin while i was learning.
wow the bad is reali long. but im not reali that worried few basic repairs and a good tune and shell be right as rain...just comes down to money atm.
if u guys have any advice other than "dont let friend ride bike" haha that would be great and ill let u know wen shes back up an running proply

Well the opening of Finlayson Rd went ahead on Sunday despite it absolutely pissing down -- and yes I did wimp out and accept the offer to drive a very fast YELLOW 2 seater with a roof instead of taking the bike!!
I went over the road on the bike on Tuesday night though. I saw a bike in the distance and pushed it a bit to catch up (an older Ducati 600 in very tidy condition - he turned off somewhere out Brighton way) and eventually pass. What I found out in the process though is that there are still a few corners that have a small amount of loose stuff on them!! - big sideways drift on one corner had my dirt bike leg going into automatic and waving itself out the side (for all the f'ing good that would do on a 200+kg Tiger!!).
It was pretty difficult to see this loose stuff - partly because it was just starting to get dark, but even in good light I don't think it would be too obvious. I heard the other day that a local Govt official from Canterbury came to grief on loose stuff on his Harley on this road a couple of weeks ago (nothing serious and he picked it up and carried on).
While it is great that this road has been sealed please be careful - its got some strange corners in terms of lines, plus the odd bit of loose stuff so enjoy it but don't use it as a race track (well not yet anyway!!;)

OK, due to a managerial error CB and I are now going on a ride to Naseby today and staying the night (We haven't made plans as to WHERE we are staying).
We plan on heading through Outram/Middlemarch/Ranfurly way and tomorrow head back via Alexandra..leaving Chez Scumdog at about 11am-ish
Any of you 'others-from-Dunners' keen to meet us somewhere en-route and join the ride? No need to stay if it doesn't suit but just thought we'd see if anybody wanted to share our company.
Too nice a day NOT to go for a ride eh:rockon:.

$70 for just the earplugs. I got them done including the MP3/Ipod speaker system which cost $220. The speakers are very different from anything else. The speakers themselves are two things in the line on the way to your ear but sit under your chin and the music is basically piped from there in a tube through the earplug. It works brilliantly and because theres no speaker at the earplug itself means they don't press against your head or come out when you put your helmet on/off.
I'll show you tomorrow
Grant has his ones there that are 12 yrs old - pretty good indication of their value as they look as good as new. Worth the extra cost.

Geez!! I go away for a weekend and you all have a party without me!!!
But then, just this once family had to take priority over riding. Had a wedding to go to and it was in a place I just couldn't pass up. OTEMATATA!!!!!
What fun was had. Took the cage up ('81 Mitsi Mirage) as I am yet to figure out a way to stick my fishing gear on the bike. Saw a whole heap of trout in the Otematata river and I think they saw me too. None of them wanted to come play.
Took the long way home going up through Omarama and went for a drive down beside the Ohau and Pukaki canals. Got kinda distracted along the way deciding as I got to the turn off that I would in fact take a slight side trip to Mt Cook. Had Lunch at Glentanner on the way back from there and stupid me left my lights on. Had to wait a little over an hour for the mechanic to come from Twizel (no one at Glentanner had any jumper leads). Got to watch a few groups go out in the helicopters for a 45min ride. @ $415 or so a pop there was no way I was going to indulge.
After that came back through Tekapo and stopped of at the observatory passing two bikes coming down as I was heading up. I wonder how their hands were at the bottom (if any1 has been up that road they will know what I mean...). After that carried on through to Fairley (sp) and Geraldine as I headed to Ashburton to stay and visit family.
Just got back today.
Definitely going to have to redo that trip only this time it will be on the bike
If anyone is heading up Chch way in next while, I recommend staying off SH1 between Ashvegas and Temuka as they are doing a whole lot of road widening to fit in more passing lanes. Theres about 5 or so spots they are doing this in and most of it isn't sealed yet.

Yeah, there was a bit of roadworks when I went through to Chch and back this weekend just gone (in a car luckily). Am heading up on Thursday on the bike but have to get there reasonably quick so stick to SH1 :( Most of it was reasonably short bits on the straights that they were working on when I went through, hopefully the same still

Hi all, off topic but i have to write this down somewhere, neighbours had a BIG party last nite, i have no probs with that, but sometime while my wife and i were sleeping between 10pm and 12.30am someone in the hood rang noise control, and then when the racket was loud enough to wake our 4 mth old baby, mrs Daphilps rang the neighbours to ask if they could tone it down slightly and got abused and then when noise control came to take stereo away at 2am the neighbours started blaming us for the noise man and then right up to 4.00 am they were yelling abuse at us, me in particular, and if i had done something then i could understand it, but the only other phonecall made by my wife was at 4.15 am to the cops as one guy was throwing rocks onto our roof and threatening to come and smash our door in and smash me over. and still abused me this morning when i tried to talk like an adult and explain that we did not call noise control. up till now had been perfect neighbours and we considered them friends. not any more i guess. what a bad night. thanks for your time all..

Good to hear... :)
For those that don't know the VTR sunk in to the footpath and fell over off its side stand while I was packing, (on the weekend of the "Off the rails") smashed the footpeg, totaly bent the clutch lever, broke the front indicator and put 3 big cracks in the fairing around the front inicator :crybaby:
Have the clutch lever and foot peg fixed, semi fixed the inicator (not worth buy a new one just yet) and there is nothing I can do about the cracked fairing unless I get it plastic welded on the inside, and the sanded and bogged and repainted which is well $$...
So am thinking of repainting the whole bike, sticking with blue... but have a white pinline fading flame... (maybe)

Yes and no. Unlock code is about $250 nzd which allows custom fuel mapping installed. Could get someone (like TripleFourensics) to do the remapping for you, and not need the cable.
Cable + software are extra $430 nzd which allow you to do your own mapping and error code clearing etc.

its not too bad yet - I've just got back from a 1600km trip up to a field day near Seddon. Lots of night riding, bit cold at times but no ice yet, and at times it was quite warm. Amazing how many big trucks are on the road at night - seems to be more than during the day.
Had a night with Mr and Mrs Shrek in the back blocks of Harwarden. The KB network is great for making new friends.

Brilliant riding weather at the moment. I had a short 440 km ride to the hospital and back yesterday. A bit of fog around Alex and still some touches of ice in the Pig Root on the way home, but lovely sunshine all the way. (and finally a date for my shoulder reconstruction - 26th May at Mercy).

hey guys. i woke up today with an urge to ride my bike....not round the block sort of ride, like a lets see where i end up sort of ride. so knowing my bike had a full tank and the oil was topped up i took off on a little journey. iv lived in dunedin for 3 years now and never reali driven north of here so i decided id head in that general direction without touching the motorway.
i made my way to nrth east valley passing baldwin st i made my way to a fork in the road i took the right prong i believe is called north road still. the road was covered nicely awsome sweeping corners i flew thru with a smile on my face and a cautious finger on the break lol (im still new at this) i eventualli made my way to mt cargill road. bumpy but long and sweeping perfect conditions for my bike. 30-40 mins later i dont know i ended up at waitati and made my way to doctors point. i think i was only away for well over an hour but it was my first long venture with twists and turns and i thought u guys would appreciate how i felt more than my flatmates :) it was awsome!

If you turn off up the top of north road you can make your way back down to Saywers bay and head back through to town along the road that way. Much shorter ride, but nice coming along that side of the harbour. Out the way you went is still nice though, and hardly ever anything to hold you up :)

sweet just got back...ended up going thru that route to sawyers bay and for the first time i experienced two new things!!! one, unexpected gusts of wind scare the shit out of me, going up north road i was almost blown onto the other lane...fortunately the road tends to be empty all the way. and coming back with the harbour to my left it happened again considering my bike weighs 114kg its fairly easy to move lol.
and secondly im sure someone here has had it happin going over some bumps i moved forward a bit and slammed my crotch into the gas tank.....fairly unpleasant, in fact certain words i dont use around my mother were spoken inside my helmet. the road to sawyers bay is called upper junction road and is down hill all the way completely empty and really twisty, i didnt have a real go because it was wet and im still getting the hang of fairly sharp corners and the 'look where u want to go' thing. but now i have found some nice road fairly empty and lots of corners im sure ill be sponsored in no time haha....oh an 98 is now $2.10....its insane

You dont have to fast to go on a track, im not sure about this track day but the track days that the otago motorcycle club hold have 5 levels so everyone is split up.
the fist level is for beginners and you are only allowed to pass on the straights, so you dont have people diving up the inside when you are trying to corner.
Then they move up to pass anywhere, then it goes to race bikes, motards and then they even have a class for tourers to get out there.
Great fun
