Funny!!! :D

I've had a novel idea.
Why don't we think of a KiwiBiker nod so that we can recognise each other on the road?

Didn't you just ask that in the other thread?

Beats on IDB! yay!

No, he suggested a KB wave. This is a nod. Completely different topic altogether. Technically, morally and ethically not a repost.

wave, no wave, who cares, really who gives a flying fuck whether or not someone waves back at you or not? I have waved many many times to people on all sorts of bikes, some have waved back and others haven't, across all bike styles. So what, life is too short to get pissed over someone not waving back at you, relax, take it easy, but a cruiser and you'll see life will change....:dodge:

This thread is no more! It has ceased to be! It's expired and gone to meet it's maker! It's a stiff! Bereft of life, it rests in peace! If you hadn't nailed it to the perch it'd be pushing up the daisies! It's metabolic processes are now 'istory! It's off the twig! It's kicked the bucket, It's shuffled off 'is mortal coil, run down the curtain and joined the bleedin' choir invisibile!!
THIS IS AN EX-THREAD!!

:killingme

Well I'd better replace it then. Sorry squire. I've had a look round the back of the forum and uh, we're right out of 'waving' threads. I got a thread on 'lane splitting'.

I just figured out why cruiser riders don't wave... They are all gay and have aids.

I also just figured out why sportsbike riders don't wave... They are all gay and have aids.

I also was thinking about why people on tourers ALWAYS wave... They aren't gay... They just have aids and they are generally happy people as well.

Oh yeah your all gay and have aids (except for the happy people on sports tourers or just normal tourers cos you guys just have aids and are not gay.)

I hope this helps all you guys who were disturbed at the lack of waves.

Or like this ?? :motu: :motu:

Or perhaps more like this ?? :tugger: :tugger:

Depending on whats going by it could even be this. :puke: :puke:

But next time its that lady in the flash BMW 4 wheeler that tried to wipe me out a few weeks ago, its going to be this. :2guns: :ar15:

Have you actually seen how many 'waving' smilies we have on this site. Waves must have some true purpose after all.

I'm actually starting to think that there should be a ban on waving threads. In fact a blanket ban on all acknowledgement threads should be implimented...

Could people post here if they want to see the end of all waving threads please. Sort of like a petition for the sanity of all kber's.

I was thinking that the punishment should be that the culprit has to choose one of the following:

- Prison (without trial)
- Tazering for twenty seconds (4 x 5 second stints in public)
- Riding in the next gay pride parade.
- Doing some business with Taito Phillip fields.
- Taking a driving job in the middle east

I know that the first option and the fourth option are similar but... :dodge:
and also that the last option is basically choosing death but...:whocares:

Well I personally think this has been a lot of fun and it sure beats those other threads on members canning out , fatal accidents and whos more gay because of what they ride. I vote that censorship should not exist on this forum hence we may as well all become caged beasties and give up beer and women, or men ladies sorry, and gayist waves.

Hence why such threads are soooooo important to making sure true men wave truely like men. Not sure how the ladies are effected but its unlikely they can be thought of as gay at anytime they are in their nice gears. Though it can be a bit hard to tell riders sex at an approaching speed of 200+ kph.

Well, lesse. Today on my wee pootle I waved to

A CBR250 (he waved back)
A Rocket3 (he waved first )
An Ambo. He waved back
A XTnnn Yamaha with a baby on the back. She (presumed she) waved back
A dozen or more assorted sprotsbikes. Most waved back (or nodded etc)
A Firebladey thing . (dunno if he waved )
A crusier thing. Ditto
Another half dozen Harley things. One waved back
2 horses and riders. They waved back
An old lady gardening (she waved back)

BTW , you would be ASTONISHED at how many grey and white haired old ladies have fond (and often lascivious) memories of time spent on the back of anceint Briddish 500s and 650s many a year ago, and accordingly a soft spot for bikers. Old ladies in my experience are very pro-biker

Several lots of kids in the backs of cars. All of whom waved with gusto
A bikie cop. He didn't wave back Snob
Seveal trial bike riders. None of them waved back Snobs
One rooster (wild, on th eside of Old North Rd) . Cos I felt like it. He didn't wave back
Assorted cages who were kind enough to pull left and let me through.

So, what does all that amount to?

You are right re the older ladies. I am amazed at how many of the middle aged ladies in my office have done bike tours with boyfriends when younger. I also have heard that in the 50's and 60's bikes were a cheap first MV so young men dating often took their lady friends out on them and they too got hooked on them. Couldn't have been too comfortable though and I bet they soon begged for cars, but they do retain the memories of their younger days and associate this with bikers today I suppose.

Chicks digged bikes back then too you know! :innocent: I never realised this till I got my FZ400. Visited grandparents and before I got off the bike my grandfather (was out digging the garden) said "let's have a wee shot". Lent him my helmet and I expected him to pootle up the street and back in first gear. Fark me, he mustuv revved it up to about 12 grand, dropped the clutch and LAUNCHED it. Heard him CANING it through the gears before he was out of ear-shot. I was $hitting myself. He was in his 70's and hadn't ridden for about 40 years. Came back after about 15 minutes, cool as a cucumber, "aye that's a nice wee bike" and then informed me about all the places he'd been to on bikes with my grandmother.

Sometimes he'd ask me to rev the tits off it to annoy the neighbours.

Righto...
Decided to conduct a very scientific test of the wavy/noddy thing today, and waved at everything on 2 wheels with a motor under the bum...
Research PROVES (absolutely anything that a statistician wants it to prove):
1. Waving/nodding at scooters = NO response AT ALL.
2. Waving/nodding at GN250's = NO response AT ALL.
3. Waving/nodding at cruisers = 2 happy waves... from pillions!
4. Waving/nodding at adventure/trail type bikes = 2 VERY happy responses!!!
5. Waving/nodding at sportbikes = ALL very fast positive responses!
6. Waving at 6 patched Headhunters going north this afternoon (will put them in the cruiser category anyway...) = NO response.

Whoa! I am seeing a trend here...

I think there could be a new thread starting soon... (just kidding folks...)

This pointless post brought to you by the letter "B" and the number "3".

I can't work out what bits are off topic any more....was this not a Pythonesque thread for a while there? That was funny...who knows how to write "Cruisers,GN250s and Scooters who don't wave go home....in Latin?"

I don't give a flying squirrels piece of flatulence whether people wave back or not any way - I nod (if I'm going too fast to wave) or wave at most 2 wheeled denizens. On the motorway sometimes you don't notice the guys in the oncoming lane until they're past so I don't generally bother but out in the countryside and around town usually a friendly gesture of some sort.:Punk:

Eventually once I've become a jaded, cynical and expert tosser on a bike - I'll perfect a standing up on the seat and do a Michael Jackson twist and finger snap wave. While doing a ton (in ye olde English mph). And if the buggers don't wave back, I'll do a U-turn and do a wheelie past the bastiches and then drop a specially made bum-flap on my riding britches ... then I'll hit the flamethrower switch which dumps fuel into the exhaust so it'll smoke the bejeezus out of those non-waving bastiches!

Are you embarrassed easily? I am. But it's nothing to worry about; it's all part of growing up and being British. This course is designed to eliminate embarrassment, to enable you to talk freely about rude objects, to look at awkward and embarrassing things and to point at people's privates. The course has been designed by Dr Karl Gruber of the Institute of Going a Bit Red in Helsinki. Here he himself introduces the course.
DR KARL GRUBER:
Hello! My name is Karl Gruber. Thank you for inviting me into your home. My method is the result of six years work here at the institute in which subjects were exposed to simulated embarrassment predicaments over a prolonged fart - PERIOD! - TIME!! [farts] Sorry.
Lesson one: Words. Do any of these words [farts] embarrass you?

DR KARL GRUBER:

DR KARL GRUBER:
Now lesson two: noises. Noises are a major embarrassment source. Even words like "tits", "winkle" and "vibraphone" cannot rival the embarrassment potential of sounds. Listen to this if you can:

[embarrassing noise]
DR KARL GRUBER:
How do you rate your embarrassment response? (a) High (b) Hello (c) Good evening.
If (c), you are loosening up and will soon be ready for this:

[embarrassing noise]
DR KARL GRUBER:
Well, how did you rate? (a) Embarrassed (b) Hello (c) Good evening.
Now lesson three, in which these rude and dirty sounds are combined with smutty visual suggestions into an embarrassment simulation situation [fart]. You are the waiter at this table:

I actually think there should be a ban on people posting saying that there should be a ban on the thread topic in which they are posting.

Of course then this very post would be banned too, and would that have the same affect as travelling back through time and changing something, hereby making the ban completely non-existant?

So, seeing as there is now no ban (there was in another dimension for those who missed it):

I rode hung over on Saturday and my reactions were too slow. I missed waving to about 4 other bikers. I feel ashamed. I cancelled my ride and went helmet shopping, but didn't buy one because all the helmets gave me a headache. Sorry if i didn't wave to you.

I have to admit I didn't wave at some sprotbikers on 16 yesterday. In my defence, it was because one of the roadside markers was a bit close to my arm at the apex of the corner and I had to alter my line a tad, I thought waving would be asking for trouble.

I have no problem waving to bikers or scooters, but not around city streets unless I know them. I didn't wave to the f*ckwit that thought he was going to be clever on my way home tonight. Dum f*ck thought he was going to pass me on the inside of a left turning corner - in the wet! I nearly kicked him off his f*cking bike. I would have done the same if it was a biker. The problem with alot of scooter riders is that they think they're so much more mobile/agile/better than anyone else is on the road. I suppose this is because scooters are light and easy to ride, but it's still no excuse....

I usally nod or wave at all bikes, its risky waving a cruiser, many wont wave back to a beat up old cbr600, but thats ok i dont mind, lets have a drag race. and i find alot of scooter riders either dont see me or are to surprised to nod back, or maybe they think "oh my lord, that bikey just noded at me, pretend i didnt see." But either way i reackon scooters deserve it, ever since i seen that fella pop a wheelie on a scooter and stayed on one wheel while he rode down the rode, turned around still on one wheel, and wheelie back to us, then he stoped on the spot, still on the back wheel. i was blown away at the time, i had no idea a scooter could do that. then i witnessed some more scooters being used as motocross bikes in a 50 fenzy, ok so they are real bikes i admit it. Those mini choppers however, they sure look dangerous, very low profile, i wouldnt want to ride one in traffic, though id problery still give them the thumbs up for being different, its their arse to risk riding the thing. :2thumbsup

Don't take it personally bro, I ride big cruisers, and even on my M109R I still get few waves. I think its a Jaffa thing, back home on the mainland where real people are everyone waves, and cars pull over to let bikes through rather than try to block them or be a hinderance. As for scooters, all on 2 wheels get a wave from me, even if they don't wave back, just shows there insecurity. I might add I always wave and thumb up cars that are courteous and kids in the back.

Ride with passion and thought always, loud bikes save lives.:chase:

We need some sort of Kiwi biker Salute..
Something distinctive and official that we will all recognise
You all know the feeling when your on foot or in a car and a bike is coming at you/ next to you and you just wanna say "Im a biker too"!!!!
I guess this probably relates to me a bit more because I tend to be on foot a bit more...
Any suggestions ?

I made this suggestion the last 12 times or so it was suggested.

Left hand raised. Index finger point. Move hand up and down while pointing skywards. KBers will do the same to you - other road users will desperately look upwards to avoid falling planes/naked parachutists etc.

Amusing for those in the know. Bloke riding past shaking head at all this frivolity is probably Finn....leave him alone ....he's quite happy as he is.

Cool idea, and we could get ID cards, and built tree huts and put up signs saying "non-bikers keep out" and if anyone wants to join our club they have to know the password, and we trick them by given them last week's password and then laugh at them coz they're wrong and we sit inside playing games and drinking fizzy drink!

We can have really cool food inside and give a bit of our pocket money each week so we can always have the coolest toys...

When I was younger, when walking around town at night I would correct the "West side" tagging with "no, actually this is the southeast side of this building" or whatever side it was.
I must have corrected a hundred or so, and the local west-side youths began threatening me with death. They never found out who I was though. Well, it was fun at the time.

Nicely done. I often thought of doing this myself growing up in Whangarei, only a skinny white boy caught defacing tag in Raumanga wasn't going to keep his handsome mug for long unless he had fast legs.

"Nothing like what you think, I'm actually not allowed to be within 100 feet of kids, but my parole officer said they needed more teachers in return for a shorter sentence"

:shit: :gob: look is what I normally get ... some of the smarter kids also get to double take :innocent:

But in truth, they love it when I sling my leg over the saddle, rev up and blat down the road (they have a competition to see who can spot me out and about ) One of them noted I had waved to their little brother on the way to primary and told him all about it, and natch, got back to me about that!

interesting. I am kind of over the waving thing. I do it sometimes, sometimes its returned, whatever.

I have noticed an interesting trend of people on HD's waving back. they never used to. I speculate its because a lot of re entry riders (with "non HD habits") end up on HD's and back in the day when they were riding, it was compulsory to wave at one and all.

I see a few bikers out south/east auckland back roads, alfriston road etc.. I wave to all on 2 wheels! I can't really tell a harley from other cruisers but I've seen a few and they've all given me a casual wave, sometimes before I wave to them! (I'm usually the first to wave, seeing a fellow biker makes me happy and I do a stupid excited "look at me!! im riding too!!! hello!!!" wave).

There was one time when I was caught in the rain on great south road with jeans on and a cruiser pulled up next to me at the lights, I think a 6'1 soaked boy on his street bike made his day, he had to pull his mirror tint visor up to laugh at me some more!

No hard feelings though, I do look like a bit of a cluts on a small bike like a GPX :D

I wish there was some universal KB wave that was distinct enough to know that they were from KB, as I too haven't been on any KB rides yet and it'd be nice to know if there's any riding around where I am!

10 years ago, I think my waves were also the "excited look at me, I'm on a bike too" type and I'd fire them off at anyone and any bike. As I rode a "metric" cruiser at the time, I didn't get many returns from either the sport or Harley riders though. Still, it didn't discourage me and as I'm about to be one of the "return to riding" group and I'll be on an HD, I'll probably pick up where I left off!

"Two wheels" is what unites us, not who makes them:rockon:

I ride around there quite often, but not until later in the day. Usually wave or at least nod to anyone on two wheels so we may well have exchanged greetings.

I know that the Harley boy's get some bad press about this, but most of the locals seem pretty good.

I hate the ones that look right at you when you wave but they don't respond back in anyway.

There is this old fuck on a BMW of somekind wearing a bright floro vest and speacialty open face BMW helmet that I see every day on my way home from work. He always looks at me and I wave but have yet to get anything back from him. Think I might try the guy in the vids pattented wave tomorrow. If that doesn't work it'll be the harley to sportsbike wave.

There's plenty of those fuckers on ST1100s too!

Every morning and afternoon I wave or nod to bikers riding Kahikatea flat road ,
Pine Valley rd, and state highway 1 Silverdale

And tonight I passed a guy and girl on bikes (the girl with a learner plate)
along Kahikatea flat road and I waved out

Do any KB's ride these routes??....just curious really

I wave to all but scooters & gang members. Scooters just don't get the bike thing (generally) & gang members are too busy trying to maintain their hard image. But if its two wheeled & motorised - plus those courteous 4 wheel drivers (got to portray a good rep for the biker community), then I'll wave regardless. But if I'm leaned hard in a corner a nod will do.

As for a KB wave, I like the idea. How about a salute (no, not the Nazi one). I often bring the left hand to the side of the helmet in a casual salute manner.

gijoe1313

Heh, I do that normal army salute myself - and if they're going for it, I turn it into a downward go forward motion (of course, if I'm concentrating on making a corner, I just do the noddy nod nod thing!)

So, yeah - that's why I wave to one and all, encourage them early to start on two wheels!

I'm a teacher too, and love waiving at groups of kids.

I think stuff like that can realy stick in a kids mind (I still remember looking at motorcyclists when a kid, thinking "Wow that's sweet, I wanna be a bad motherf**ker on a mean bike when I grow up").

I have found over the years.. (especially gangs) that by themself they mostly are great guys(and gurls)... but when the are together as a gang they get that gang atattitude.

I remember when my CB250n broke down years ago in the middle of no-where, the first people to stop were 6 mob members (or black power) I not sure which, on big old rattly HDs and got me going again. As soon as my bike started they were off, never saw them again. But one of them came up to me and said just before they left "we are not all bad" shock his hand and said thanx and they were gone... I'll always remember that.

I have been riding for over 25 years and can remember the so called good old days when everyone waved....actually not everyone did then either....get over it.....

I am more interested in whether bikers stop to help out each other on the road side because I think that is actually happening less and less now. Lets make that a goal of everyone here..Sportsbikes, HD, everyone..if you see a bike on the road side, slow down and make sure they are ok...no it hasnt happened to me yet and yes I have stopped to check on others....

It's just practice - I was coming back from Taupo following the missus and kids (she was in the cage I followed on the bike) we lost touch at Huntly coz of some traffic lights - little did I know she'd turned off and turned round to meet me again so there I am on state highway one trying to catch up with a car that was actually behind me!

Passed a pool maintenance truck with a couple of bikes on the back (you know who you are) and rode past them - recognised the bikes from Taupo Trackday IV and so gave them the thumbs up - arm outstretched to my left and I must've been doing at least 120kph....they passed me a short while later (coz I slowed down to 80 kph when I realised the missus MUST be behind me.

Maybe I'm just more used to the rush of air being on a naked bike.

Last couple of days I seem to have made a habit of chasing Harleys. And I must say, they LOOK odd,and uncomfortable, all elbows and knees splayed out wide. Not saying there's anything wrong with it , just it looks odd following someone when all you see is elbows and knees, to someone like me that grew up with the classic Briddish dogma of head up, knees locked to tank, elbows tucked in, forearms parallel, toes down.

I nod to all bikes I notice, it was one of the first things I picked up when I got my license at 15. I thought it was great how other riders would do this. I had left scooters off my nod list until recently when someone told me they give it to "anyone on two wheels". And yeh kids love it when they get a wave/two handed wave etc
Funniest nod ever was when I was, dare I say a passenger in a cage (back seat) a racy bike comes up behind us so I turn round to look and give him the nod out of habit and get one in return. They could probably guess that I was a fellow two wheeler in disguise.

I went for a nice ride to Rotorua today. I was following a friend and his wife who was riding their Goldwing. I noticed that cruiser style bikes only waved to him while sport bikes only seemed to wave to me. When we stopped for lunch I asked them about it. She said they (other cruiser bikes) dont wave often but they know style when they see it,...followed by the comment 'have you ever tried to push a wheelbarrow with one arm?"

By the way..I saw quite a number of people riding between Te Puke and Rotorua today I hope no one got snapped by the speedcamera on 3 mile hill.

I love being waved at :D It makes me happy all day hahaha.

One of the nicest ones I had, was the first night I rode to work, I'd finished work and was trying to kick my bike into life, really struggling. This guy on a BMW thumper adventure bike rode past, and while he was waiting at the lights waved and asked me if I needed any help... I said `nah', he said `good luck' and rode off when the lights changed (I eventually bump started lol).

Anyway, my bike has been broken down recently, so I've been bussing to work. I was still working one night, went to serve another table, and the guy rode past again -- somehow recognised me (even though there was no bike to be seen, and I was wearing my helmet last time), and waved again at me! I thought that was pretty cool.

If only we could recognise each other on the street somehow, and wave when we're just walking along without our bikes or gear. That would be pretty sweet -- biking is enough like a secret society already ;).

I don't wave to anybody because it takes me so long to get my mirrors in the right place that I am scared of bumping them. Instead I do the South Auckland style 'upwards nod'. Lots of people nod back, but some just stare. From other threads I have figured out why that may be....(GN 250, L plate, safety vest). So I'm lucky anybody waves really.... But maybe they just think I'm a nutter because I am usually smiling and laughing to myself inside my helmet. Anyway, I wave, nod to all bikers I see, including those on scooters... 90% of the time they wave or nod back. The only time I don't is usually when I am doing some sort of manuvour that requires my 100% of attention or I just plain didn't see yah on the other side of the motorway...

I did around 400 k's over the weekend and didn't get a single wave back. Sportsbikes, Cruisers, Tourers, Naked's, Scooters, I even tried cars. You name it - nothing, zip, nadda.

Next time I'll take the bike. Cars suck.

[QUOTE=Toaster;864462]Yeah, I always wave or nod (or sneeze in my helmet........) cruiser riders often don't wave back. I guess they think they are superior riding heavy bikes that aren't anywhere near as fast as sports bikes. Come on ppl give us a wave, buy me a coffee, be friendly cause the cages out there sure as hell ain't!![/QUOTE
90% of the waves i get are from harley riders[even patched members] and other cruisers, very seldom do i get a wave from sportbike riders. As long as i,m enjoying myself i dont give a shit.

No mate, wasn't me.

1) I don't wave. It only encourages this sort of immature behaviour and besides, waving is dangerous. Keep your hands on the bars at all times.
2) I would have stopped for beer. I ride much smoother when I'm tanked and bins hurt less.
3) Hardly ever ride the Repsol. In fact it's for sale except I'm too lazy to advertise it. You know it's a collectors item.

I guess it must depend on the day as i run both a cruiser and a sports bike and some days everyone will give a wave or acknowledgement regardless of what bike i am riding, yet on other days hardley a thing.
Either way it does'nt really bother me but i usually try and acknowledge other riders whenever i can.

Maybe it's just funny little me but I never get waves from cruisers and almost always from sports bikes...two fingers is a wave isn't it?
Might be just because until recently I was on a GB250, maybe now I have a 400 I'll just get waves from everyone...right? :ride:

Hey.....I've got a great idea!
Why don't we have a special KB wave so that we can recognise each other on the road?

Why hasn't this been thought of before?!

I agree that it would be really coool ... what about
- touch the left side of yer helmet; or
- touch the top of yer helmet

I like the first 1 better

I was in Rotorua on the weekend (In the cage) however I saw the goldwing mentioned earlier... and quite a few bikes also... I gave a nod from my car... and was suprised that I got a few back :D  no doubt the bikers were thinking 'must have left the bike at home today' or something similar

I think all "wave" threads should get bundled up and sent off to some surfing forum so we don't have to read them over and over and over again.

Surfers appreciate waves.

Mind you, while out walking I do tend to say "morning" or "hello" to other people walking through the park....fellowship of shanks pony.
