I can't be bothered reading back through this thread but, has anyone suggested anywhere that we come up with a KB wave?
I reckon it would be a great idea!
We could recognise each other on the road as fellow KBers and...well...it would just be so super!

I can't vote as it is a either or poll.
I used to be a waver only but lately I like to mix it up a bit and wave or nod. Never both as there is the risk that the other biker may be Carver or a friend of his and surely a wave combined with a nod would be considered a come-on by him and he may follow me home(o). :spanking:

Heading down to Taupo for the TRRS on boxing day, I'd decided to see how many bikes would wave.
ONE. Just one. We saw lots. The one bike that waved was a cruiser, who was puzzled as to whether he knew us or not.
As we drove into the Taupo circuit, there was another biker that waved, but I decided he didn't count, as we were there.
What's wrong with you folk. No, I didn't wind down the window to wave, I just waved by the windscreen to see how good you dudes/dudettes were.
Definitely a fail.
Next time you see a white van, you make sure you wave. It could be us. Or it could be some other people who will then wonder if they know you hahahaha
Sorry, couldn't resist, but did think the dude that did wave was brilliant (looked like he was just taking off, so was slow enough to see through the windscreen that two idiots were waving - doubt he saw the bike until he was almost past us)

There is a KB wave, But its tied into the ranked levels of membership and you aren't made aware of it until someone nominates you to move up to the first level. Of course most are never allowed to even be aware of the ranked membership and the rituals and privileges that are part of the deal.
But just so you know, The KB Wave is not performed while riding, Its reserved as identification in face to face meetings, and unless you know what to look for you will never see them, Though they were flying thick and fast at the Bikoi.
Now lets see if this post gets deleted the instant its noticed........

It's one of lifes' little mysteries. If you search the site you'll see that many people have pondered the same thing.
Me - I just think they are concentrating really really hard on the next corner, it's not easy to get a Harley to go round a corner and must take lots of concentration.

10 reasons why harley riders dont wave.
10. Afraid it will invalidate warranty.
9. Leather and studs make it too heavy to raise arm.
8. Refuse to wave to anyone whose bike is already paid for.
7. Afraid to let go of handlebars because they might vibrate off.
6. Rushing wind would blow scabs off the new tattoos.
5. Angry because just took out second mortgage to pay luxury tax on new Harley.
4. Just discovered the fine print in owner's manual and realized H-D is partially owned by Honda.
3. Can't tell if other riders are waving or just reaching to cover their ears like everyone else.
2. Remembers the last time a Harley rider waved back, he impaled his hand on spiked helmet.
1. They're too tired from spending hours polishing all that chrome to lift their arms.
Top Ten Reasons Why Gold Wing Riders Don't Wave Back [/U]
10. Wasn't sure whether other rider was waving or making an obscene gesture.
9. Afraid might get frostbite if hand is removed from heated grip.
8. Has arthritis and the past 400 miles have made it difficult to raise arm.
7. Reflection from etched windshield momentarily blinded him.
6. The espresso machine just finished.
5. Was actually asleep when other rider waved.
4. Was in a three-way conference call with stockbroker and accessories dealer.
3. Was distracted by odd shaped blip on radar screen.
2. Was simultaneously adjusting the air suspension, seat height, programmable CD player, seat temperature, and satellite navigation system.
1. Couldn't find the "auto wave back" button on dashboard.

Aw jeeez not this shit again,
The answer is simple, Harley riders don't wave back because they are far to busy looking for the next thing to vibrate off their bikes. If you DO see a Harley rider do something that looks like a wave it probably isn't, it is more likely a feeble attempt to catch the shiney bits that just fell off before it hits the road:done:

Some harley riders wave back.
Waving asside though, I've found H-D riders to have a "holier than thou" attitude, and blatantly flout the law in built up areas. Coming roaring up cars from behind at over 140 and sitting 1m from their bumper is not uncommon behaviour at all. And although I'm the last to be bothered by loud exhausts, their ridiculously loud bikes piss me off to no end.
Not saying sportbike riders abide to the law at all times, just that you'll never see anyone on a sportbike misbehave like that.

Well, it's funny you should say that because I have found that sportsbike riders do all of that, and more. I've never been undertaken by a Harley rider, but have been undertaken by a complete wanker on a sports bike.
The people I ride with don't ride right behind cars, or bikes or any other road users mode of transport for that matter. (Unless they're being slow cocks and the rider is waiting for an opportunity to pass.)
Bikes that are TOO loud piss me off too and by far the majority of them in my neck of the woods are small displacement sports bikes that are having the living snot revved out of them.
Burn them I say!

You could say; "where is your manner?" or "where ARE your manners?" but "where's" is an abbreviation of 'where is' so your post is sloppy.

Absolutely! I think being on a bike is one of the very few times in our often twisted day and age that you can wave to a kid without being accused of being a sicko,, and the smiles you get in return are always worth it.
I wave at all bikes if I can, and if I can't then its a nod, except if they're on a Harley and have a rag across their face and wrap-around sunnies
I've given up on waving at someone on the opposite side of the motorway though, as this rarely gets a response.
Little kids usually are good to wave at too, espically if they're frantically trying to get your attention. You've got to encourage the future generation of bike owners :niceone:

Yep, there are def. certain "rules" to the system. I ride an old scooter and a big bike, and waves usually come from like-riding others, i.e, big bike to big bike. Also, makes of bike can affect the system too.
For example, riding a VFR, and waving to a Harley owner (probably) won't work.
It's funny waving on my big bike to a familiar biker, then going out on my scooter and getting snubbed by the same former biker a few days later! Ahh...if only we didn't have helmets on...
Sometimes tho, I will get waves from a lot of bikers, and some car people too, as my scooter is a little bit rediculous looking, lol. Sometimes laughing from school girls as well...

I wave or at least nod to most bikes I also flash my lights if Mr Policeman is in the vicintiy of an oncoming bike and I must say I love it when I get one of those big helicopter waves, have had 3, thanks to all who wave or nod at me, I'm the one in black on a black bike with a burgandy helmet.

uhm... i just realize that you have coming bikes on the right...
how do you wave?
you pull up two fingers from the right hand or wave with the left hand anyway?
doing it like we do (two fingers V on the left side) could be pretty unuseful, and doing it with the right means leaving the throttle...
huuuge problems.... :D :D :D :D

Brilliant idea tank - hard to believe it hasn't come up before...
What about a 1 finger salute? :finger:
People would spontaneously respond in kind and we'd have happiness and bonding spreading like wildfire throughout the country. Harleys, patched gangmembers, sportsbike riders, cruisers, dirt bikes would all come together....
I feel a song coming on...
