Hi there KB users,

I like nothing more than acknowledging fellow bikers when on a ride or just out and about, I always give a small nod  of acknowledgment as I ride past another biker (I find this good as its easily seen and you dont have to take focus off the road too much) Iits great to get a nod  back and makes me feel like part of somthing greater! however I have also heard about a foot wave using the breaking foot, I think this would be hard to spot, and may lead to dangerous consequences?
So I put this question to you? do you Nod or Wave?
Ride safe and ride free! :scooter:

***apologies for my Novice mistake and thankyou to all those who have helped me see the error of my ways, lack of experience and too much enthusiasm! ***

I give a wave to all riders, even scooters around town and vespas out on the open road. I was riding up to Whanagrei last week, earlyish morning, and a bit of sun strike obscured the rider coming towards me. I give them a wave and they give me a friendly/enthusiastic wave back. I was pretty stoked 'cause riding a 250 I often get snobbed . He goes past and I see in this order: he's wearing a reflector vest > its a BMW > it's got blue and yellow checkers painted on it > its a m'cycle cop! :)

Anyone else been given a wave from a m'cycle cop?

I got a wave from a Headhunter a few days back, does that count?

I was well impressed, as he was getting shadowed by three cop cars, one of which was sitting on my tail.

Who cares, everyone was a newbie once, we weren't all just born awesome, well some of us did lol...... I do both, wave and nod. It depends on the approaching rider. It also depends on safety, as in a tight corner or passing maneuverer could be detrimental.
I prefer to nod, as it's easier and less effort. I wave at fuddies with bright hi vis jackets, traditional 1% bikers I just nod the helmet and get a 50/50 response. Most sports riders always wave if they aren't doing 140 miles per hour.

(It's been at least a day since I saw an active waving thread on KB, so reckon I can probably get away with sneaking this question in here).
I am interested to know... do you folks wave to bikers BEHIND you when they appear in your mirrors? I just wonder how you do it without looking like you are gesturing at them rudely. I'm thinking mostly of around town, because most bikers who appear in my mirrors on the open road are usually past me by the time I have the chance to think about waving.

its always nice to acknowledge the other bikes on the road.....especially if its middle of winter, raining, windy and there suffering just like you (freezzing an miles from home) its a "moment" of recognision that cagers don't (and never will) understand...its about recognising a fellow "survivalist" for me.

So do you guys like to give each other parting wave or gesture to other motorcyclists when you go by?

Yeah, but I used to play soccer so it was just a matter of reversing the header and voila ... the upwards nod.

I don't actually do it while riding though as if the visor is up you tend to get your head ripped backwards if done at over 70kph. See. Speed does kill!

The trick is to lead with the eyebrows....... they go up 1st, the rest of the head has to catch up giving the initial "flick" , then as the head does actually catch up the movement becomes more fluid.

kind of like towing a car with a bit of slack in the rope :D

My memory is crap and at times I come up with this brilliant thread topic that I start just to be told that I started the same thread 2 years ago. Who gives a fuck? It will be a new thread as new opinions will be posted by hopefully new posters.

And I have stopped using the serach function. Each time I do and the result is a blank some clever fart still manages to find a thread from 1975 that had one of the words I used in my title on the 27 row in the second sentence (even if it was spelled with a c and not an s...) :whocares:

Yeah, commenting on the same thread from 2 years ago ends up being criticised as a 'thread dredge' and things can change over time, but there's gotta be a limit. Take for example the 3 threads in 2 weeks about the video of the drift ZX10R. What's the point in having 3 separate threads about the same thing running simultaneously?
Use the search function and if someone tells you there's already a thread on it, tell them you looked but couldn't find one. If they tell you to look harder next time, tell them to piss off :niceone: Fair enuf if you looked but if you're too much of a lazy prick to look....

personally i have always hated the "repost" crap on here. Who cares that you have been around here since jesus was in nappies and you have a memory like a elephant. I even consider this "repost" scare to be inhibiting new posters on here.

My memory is crap and at times i come up with this brilliant thread topic that i start just to be told that i started the same thread 2 years ago. Who gives a fuck? It will be a new thread as new opinions will be posted by hopefully new posters.

And i have stopped using the serach function. Each time i do and the result is a blank some clever fart still manages to find a thread from 1975 that had one of the words i used in my title on the 27 row in the second sentence (even if it was spelled with a c and not an s...) :whocares:

repost !!!

In the same way that truck drivers indicate to each other as they pass, Is there any sort of standard for signals between bikers?

As I was biking today, I passed a guy on a cruiser going the other direction, he dropped his hand off the throttle and kinda pointed out to his right.

At first I thought it was just a "You're on a bike, I'm on a bike, Nice work!" kinda thing.

But then I thought about it a little more, and as I was following the right-hand tyre tread of the car in front of me, I was relatively close to the centerline. So maybe it was a "Move over!" kind of gesture?

Either way I didnt do anything back, Now im wondering: Is there any standard bike-to-bike wave? or even a KBiker wave?

Have you ever noticed that some riders just don't wave? I wonder if there is common theme? Maybe its just Harley riders, or is sports bike riders that won't wave to scooters?

I wonder if a thread has ever been started on here asking these important questions. :innocent:

Ignoring the whole waving thread shit storm.... why would you take your THROTTLE hand off? Sure it is the right side of the bike for a wave, but you would be better off just kicking out your right leg if you were doing that sort of waving shit wouldn't you?

I kind of like consistent throttle control myself.

I wonder if the site could be set up to automatically send all new members a welcome message when they join up (does this already happen?). In that message can be the usual welcome stuff and site rules but in massive caps at the end there could be a "Please use the search function before starting a thread" along with "please do not start threads about waving, tyre pressure, waving, petrol octane, waving, what oil to use, waving, or about waving" :corn:

Are radar detectors legal?

What sort of bike should I buy?

Should I wear all of the fucking gear all of the fucking time?

Countersteering: what's that all about then?

Sigh.

I used to wave but after a while found it a bit informal. Now I prefer to shake hands as I pass or if I'm in Auckland and it's a woman riding that I've met before a kiss to each cheek is called for. A good buddy will get a backslapping hug.
