I'd be happy to see you on a GS Caseye. :sunny: I want every bike to varying degrees. Though with reality being a constraint if it came down to just 2 more (keeping it real........ly hopeful) it would have to be a 73 Z1, and a 82 Katana 1100 and... and.... Alas I must await lotto or get really lucky and find a nice one tucked away nicely in a nice dry corner in some benevolent soul's garage<_<

Well still waiting for gaskets and things ex Z1 enterprizes seem to be delayed and they havent given me shipping advice which is not like the usual service.
The carbs are semi stripped , and head still off of course so hopefully parts will arrive this week. I am also reinstailling my Dyna coils... so a bit to do yet.

Best of luck to you Quo,
I'm in the same boat.
Well, there is meager hope to get my Mk1 ready in time <_<

The springs have landed from Italy, paperwork sighted but not in my hands yet...
It also has one air damper not sealing which needs looking at plus a WOF etc

The BMW is a possibility, will push to get it legal and a decent shakedown run

Then there is the old crusty trusty Mk2...

Just checked and see that Z1 are about 15 - 20% cheaper on parts and shipping

Psy and I have used them pretty regularly and find them helpful and fast at dispatching the goods (sometimes they have to wait on their suppliers if they have to order parts in)

A good supplier who just happens to be a GSR member. Prompt delivery at a great price. You do need to be able to positively identify the o rings you need though.

I was only winding Psguy up about his switch. I won't be laying a finger on Bruno!! <_<

i wasnt aware of what you're after, but if it is the rubber rings for carbs then abosolutely go with cycleorings - as said, a gsr member, both croc and i have used his stuff and while the sizes are not IDENTICAL to oem they work absolutely fine, and much much cheaper

well if you take of the price of new battery, fairly new tyres orginal exhaust and pipes in pretty good conidition not far off! have removed fairing need replacement handle bars ( dont like mini ape hanger type)
Those bars look to be about the right shape to fit behind a GS1100GK fairing - want to sell them?

Need a GS1000 motor (chain drive)? Has been bored to 1100, the pistons are hi comp MTCs, some have minor seizure scuffs and would need new rings. Honda Civic Shuttle 1500 rings will fit with minor oil groove widening. Also an assortment of 1000L bits (the donor crashed into then back of a car, so no frame, forks, tank, instruments or exhaust)

Hey guys! What a great time. Great to meet Dieseldick, Wickle, cmoore, Locko and Dodgys mates (didn't get their names ).

Have been going through about forty videos trying to sort some out that feature each rider. Unfortunately the batteries ran out quarter of the way back and it looks like I need to brace the camera bracket as the wobbling makes viewing hard work and to further exasperate the problem I had it set on 4 times zoom for about half of the clips. While the zoom is better to see the riders in front it makes the wobbling reaaaal bad.

Will look at uploading some videos and will post links soon here are some links to some stills (for some reason I can't post pics to this thread???)

Thanks everyone for coming. Especially Dieseldick and Wickle for coming from so far. It was great to catch up. Hopefully we will do a trip down to see you before too long.

Dieseldick is a bit light on the sodden part just out of Putaruru I could see the beam of my light in the rain and when a truck went past going the other way I lost sight of him because of the spray even thou he would have only been 40 metres in front of me. Hi Wickle. Most video cameras etc record video as .Mov or .FL files and they cant be opened by windows software without first converting them. Very few software applications can edit Mov or .FL files. Unless you have video editing software that came with your camera you will be reliant on whats available on your PC or the net (The free stuff that I could find won't edit these files without being converted to another file type first.

I downloaded a converter called 'Digital Media converter' to convert the files to either WMV (to play on desk top pc's) or AVI (type 2). I then used Windows movie maker (which came with vista).

Have a look and if/when you get stuck pm me.

Stay with your Suzuki lad. You don't know how good you've got it.
You can't handle the truth! Son, we live in a world that has roads. And those roads have to be riden by men with Guzzis. Who's gonna do it? You? You, Lt. Crocberg? I have a greater responsibility than you can possibly fathom. You weep for Suzuki and you curse the Italians. You have that luxury. You have the luxury of not knowing what I know: that Suzukis, while tragic, probably saved lives. And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, ruins lives...You don't want the truth. Because deep down, in places you don't talk about at parties, you want me on that wall. You need me on that wall.
We use words like honor, code, unreliability...we use these words as the backbone to a life spent defending something. You use 'em as a punchline. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very freedom I provide, then questions the manner in which I provide it! I'd rather you just said thank you and went on your way. Otherwise, I suggest you pick up a weapon and stand a post. Either way, I don't give a damn what you think you're entitled to!

The only thing I never got replaced was my helmet which was just over a grand. So all good in the end, sold the bike when it was done and it went to a good home.

Going around the lake is absolutely beautiful. Although it can be raining and horrid on one side and sunny and hot on the other like it was when I did it last Sept. Plus there are some standout places to eat in Taupo, one even has motorcycle parking right out side and serves vegetalien dishes as well.

croc, I can't predict the bloody back, I am pushing it every day to keep momentum on my renovations but I would give it a 80% chance of doing the run by then. I will have to take a comfy bike, the Mk1 would put me in hospitol trying to do that in a day. If I'm still gammy I can ride down the day before and stay with friends in Traumaniu, and meet you guys on the way down if you go 8 mile junction to Taumaranui

Let's build on doing this, it will be a challenge and maybe even fun.

It's 3 1/2 hrs from Aucks to Taumaranui if you take the alt route south and come out at Otarahanga then 8 Mile Junction and SH4 (wicked road to ride, has it all) so your talking a fair distance. But def Taupo has some good shops (or widebait), we may even lose Voli there due to the antique shops.
I could ask Diane if she wants to come but I was hoping she would babysit my mutts save the expense of the kennels, plus if she comes that will be her 2 plus my 2 dogs to board... it's mayham

And now for my 5 cents worth! I reckon the Taupo trip would be great. I'm a nana rider and still think it's easily possible for a day trip. Early start would be the way to go, nothing like riding in the pre dawn cool as the sun is rising...(cue: wistful romantic music). Plus with some good coffee in the system somewhere Psy, it'll be just the berries (come in fine spring weather).

I don't mind either way. An overnighter would make for a little more relaxation time at Taupo which would be nice. Has anyone got a tow bar and trailer rigged up? We could take the tent down and save a few pennies

Truer words never said.

You guys outside Akld may need to do a bit of legwork locally to build numbers up enough to make regular ride groups.:scooter:

If it's any help you can print out this picture and cut it up to use as little invites for suitably suspect individuals. Leave them on bikes, windows, at shops, on community notice boards etc.

Thanks for that croc, I forget this thread requires a notice too.
Even if it is a short notice quick fang.

So you will remember all the settings and guff for the 'arsecam' this time?

I have some single sided low density foam tape if you want to dampen your camera mount. I can bring some over the Shore with me one day if you want to give it a try. I remember a thread on KB a few years back and a guy tried that with some improvement

flyingcrocodile46
29th September 2009, 08:52
Thought I did this time but....

I have some foam and rubber tape (prolly similar) but think most of the issue is in the spring/bounce of the cantilevered bracket so doubt if it would help in itself. If I stiffen the mount first then add the tape to take out any harshness of vibration caused by the stiffening...?

Dodgyiti
29th September 2009, 13:05
Stiffening:lol:

Sandwich the foam tape between all mounting points, it should help.
How are you going to erm, stiffen the mounting bracket? Epoxy a brace along it?

flyingcrocodile46
29th September 2009, 14:10
Stiffening:lol:

Sandwich the foam tape between all mounting points, it should help.
How are you going to erm, stiffen the mounting bracket? Epoxy a brace along it?

The camera is quite weighty and is mounted on one end of a plastic camera stand bit which in turn is end mounted on the end of a longish strip of 1.5mm steel about 25mm wide so it has a whippy action not dissimilar to a fishing rod with a big lead weight sat in a boat road holder while bouncing along the waves. The mounting point is the base of the speedo (which is rubber mounted) and it's wire tied to the top of the speedo. So there is the issue of flex in the speedo (Rod bucket) and the flex of the cantilevered section of the bracket (approx 150mm incl the top plastic mounting doodah off my camera tripod) Shit!... I'll go down an take a picture.. But anyway, I reckon all the flex needs to fuck off.

I had thought I might abandon it and modify the Givi bracket that I installed for my radar detector. Problem is, the Givi bracket position where mounted would leave half the camera exposed to rain and insects and the edge of the screen would be in the middle of the picture and there isn't a suitably located mounting point for it. So that idea is a bit of a dead duck.

I think a lot of the problem is the flex in the speedo. If I firm it up, it should fix it.... I think? The bottom of the first pic right of centre is one of the two bolts and rubber doodahs at the base of the speedo (and tacho) bracket. I need to brace the top of teh speedo somehow

The reason I don't want to go is because the law of averages (as quoted to me by Pirate Jaffa) says that one out of five peeps is a bonafide nutter, one is gay, one is religious (sorry make the nutter ratio 2/5) and one rides a Yamaha. That leaves one out of five average peeps that are normal.:eek5:

I have found that the ratio greatly improves through natural selection processes when appropriate special interest groups are used to vet potential acquaintances and BFTP is one such appropriate group.:2thumbsup.

However as Pirate Jaffa has pointed out to me, a large percentage of people who post at KB have the IQ of lint combined with the personality and charisma of old man Steptoe, so pardon me If I have no desire to keep the company of a hundred of the tards.

Hi guys,

I've noticed that this thread is used for organising regular BFTP Rides - I've changed the thread title to reflect that (removing the original date which was no longer valid and must have been confusing).

If you can, please keep the discussion to ride organisation where possible, and keep the most of the general chit-chat stuff for your Social Group (makes it easier for everyone to find the ride info here).

Cheers

flyingcrocodile46
11th October 2009, 08:35
Thanks Virago, though as our group is now locked from viewing, this thread is our one and only feeder thread for the rest of KB to see what we are up to.

We would like others to see What we are about, and part of that is a bit of general chit chat which may include parts inquiries etc.

I've noticed that this thread is used for organising regular BFTP Rides - I've changed the thread title to reflect that (removing the original date which was no longer valid and must have been confusing).

hey virago, you're right the date was confusing so thanks for removing it.

would it be a problem to change the "BTPR" title as well, we're now known as BFTP - Blast From The Past.
i think it would be good to have the title that matches our BFTP social group name, so it's not confusing for new members.

thank you

I believe it is in the main calendar??? but I see it has a * next to the posting what does that mean? Maybe that explains why I am the only one going on the ride, no one can see it!

I have no idea how a simple cut and past could go so wrong??? the map link is fine on the ride calendar posting.

and that IS an annoying asterix in the calendar that i don't know how to get rid of but it basically means that if your computer does an automatic time update that might affect the time display in the calendar... or something... right, croc?
