Easter 2007 - Where did you ride this weekend?

It's been an awesome weekend weatherwise. I've managed to get out on short rides a couple of days and seen lots of others on the roads - Spankme, Aff-man and Nicksta that I recognised today. Can't see any thread for ride reports so thought I'd start one.... my report soon...

Well after a long time of no riding (or posting on KB) due to work commitments I finally got out for a ride today.
Went to Lake Ferry for lunch with a few mates. Bloody great day for a ride and it seems that lots of other thought so too. Plently of bikes over there today.
Weather was perfect & no wind so the riding was primo.
Lunch was so slow, took over an hour to get ours but hey! Who cares! We were on Sunday mode on a Monday so its all good.
I was surprised how light the traffic was coming back. I thought it would be hell on the hill today but it wasnt too bad.
Damn its good to be back riding again.
May the road rise up to meet you.
May the wind be always at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face.

Well we went here http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/sh...ad.php?t=47528 and here http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/sh...ad.php?t=47615

Also got time this afternoon to take the DR650SE out to check it wasn't leaking any more - just went over Paekak Hill and back and there were cops everywhere - three to a car - what's that about?

    Great weather alright.
    Cheers

Had a skills practice session on Friday as the big carpark had no cars in it, rode around the inlet to practice corners and scraped a peg on the way home (report in another thread). Sunday went on the newbie ride to Martinbourough and around Lake Ferry (report in other thread). Today, as hubby had bought home his new K7 750, I took that for a ride out to Pahatanui Inlet and rode up and down there a couple of times to test it on corners (and to find I can't U-turn it like the Hornet ) then rode it to Rimutex and had to swap bikes as I wasn't allowed to give it its first ride over the Rimatakas! So back on my trusty Hornet for a ride up and over and back. Scraped my peg on a corner on the Takas, completely accidental like , and home among a bunch of turkeys on their way home from the long weekend. Have the week off, so will be doing a bit more practicing (if the weather can be kind for a bit longer!)

What he said (Merv) on Sunday... Then helped fix a mates bike today... so feel fully bikered up for the weekend.
They shall not grow old as we that are left grow old.
Age shall not weary them nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the evening,
    we will remember them

I had a small list of things to do on my bike this weekend. I fitted the new left tail fairing and left mirror ($314 incl GST) that were damaged when I binned at Taupo in November. Moved my pegs up and back to save my pegs and boots at track days. Fitted a switch to my radar detector so that I can switch it on and off on the move to make sure it the HARD's working ( My Valentine 1 doesn't false so I don't get constant reminders that everythings working and my HARD batteries haven't gone flat). Also fitted the external microphone my wife bought me for my video camera so my on board video won't get all that annoying wind noise.

So I've ridden around the Whitford/Clevedon/Maraetai/Hunua area a few times testing various camera setups, and getting used to my new peg positions. I was surprised how minimal the peg adjustment was but how much difference it made to the riding comfort.

Rode out to Clevedon with the "250" group on Sunday morning despite having to be at a family gathering in Massey at 11.30am. After the family do I went home via Bombay/Hunua/Clevedon. Today we went out late with Alan and planned to go against the flow of anticipated heavy traffic. Had some fun thru Monument Road and the Hunua Gorge but otherwise traffic was a pain. Video camera microphone works well (as long as i remember to switch it on :slap: ) so I'm looking forward to some good footage at the next trackday! Good to see so many bikes out on the road!!

Cruised down to Rottenrua to visit wifey's sisters and families, (and friends). Hit the traffic jams at Spaghetti junction at about 11.30am Friday, and despite being on the bike and weaving/splitting as much as poss, (bike's a bit ponderous two-up at walking pace so was a bit cautious and Mrs. Edbear was getting a bit impatient... At one point after repeatedly tapping,(!), me on the back and giving instructions on how to get through traffic MUCH quicker, she finally said in exasperation, "Let me drive!")

Was intending to go via 27, but as the traffic was stopped halfway back up the Bombays, changed our minds and stuck to SH1. Even so, it was stalled and barely crawling from Mercer right through to Te Kauwhata. Naturally we took the cycle lanes and verges and made steady progress all the way up the left much to the envy of those stuck at 0-10km/h beside us. Some leaning out their windows and expressing their wish to join us as we cruised on by at around 30km/h! Passed two HP going the opposite direction but they ignored us and carried on.

After stopping in to friend's and family in Morrinsville the traffic was good from then on even through the Mamaku's, we were not held up at all!
Beautiful weather, met new friends and had a ball! Got to find and drive a classic Jag and saw how the other half live when the Real Estate friend took us to see what $2m buys you at Lake Tarawera!

Got 52mpg from the C50T despite pressing on and using full throttle for overtaking. Gave the Missus a moment when scraping the footboards but she really enjoyed the trip though expressed the need to do lots more riding to toughen up... she was suffering a bit with sore bum and knees by the time we got home.

IM CONSCIOUS OF IT TOO, but i check by pressing the on/off switch. just for a second, less than 2 and it transmits to the h.a.r.d. system to let you know your still in stealth mode ** just realised you have a rain cover on yours... ignore above

nice work gettin the bike back together after the bin. i'm still having physio & acupuncture for my off, but the bikes bike to new again, although i need new batteries for my h.a.r.d system which ran out 3 weeks ago

I went around a paddock a few times on a four wheeler (farm bike thingee). It was fine as soon as:
    > I figured out that you don't twist the throttle but thumb the wee lever thingee
    > Was told that that the clutch lever was actually another brake (couldn't figure out why whenever I pulled the clutch in to change gear the bike skidded to a halt).
    > Let go of my natural inclination and accepted that you need to lean away from rather than lean into the corner to get around faster.

More exciting was when Mrs Oakie got the inclination to do a lap topless.

Marlborough for me, for a friends birthday - about an hour and a half past Portage, which is getting pretty out of the way!

Alot of it being unsealed and more akin to a logging track, the TL did an awesome impression of a dual sport.

Stunning scenery ... forgot the camera at home
