way too many people on this site with their heads jammed right up there arses dreaming about how perfect they are, they forget people, especially learners make mistakes, they rather sit there bagging them with" I'm so good " "I would have", you can tell the people who are here to boost their egos from the true bikers
all of the above is self-authored and could have been avoided. Cant see luck having alot to do with any of it, well maybe aside from the girlfriend thing.
Risk assessment. 112km/hr while wearing an L plate on a commonly patrolled road after a couple of drinks? Seriously???
please at least tell us your hot? Got to be some excuse for running into the back of you when he was "plenty far enough behind"
There are also alot of people on this site with a bit of common sense and personal responsibility call it how they see it and not blame luck for a whole heap of problems that could have so easily been avoided.
And the whole "but hes a learner" doesnt wash with me. I taught my wife how to ride. Not until I was *completely* satisfied with her braking on striaght, hard, soft, and while cornering and doing it without effort did we venture out onto the road. Took 2 weeks of carpark work and on one of the first rides out on the road we had a car and trailer pull out in front of us (she was leading, I was following) with very little space. Fantastic to see her pull a 30yr old bike up in a short distance without locking anything up and avoiding an accident. We practice these things for a reason instead of jumping out on the road and thinking that their heads jammed right up there arses dreaming about how perfect they are, they forget people, especially learners make mistakes, they rather sit there bagging them with" I'm so good " "I would have", you can tell the people who are here to boost their egos from the true bikers

Bullshit. Getting done for drunk driving and speeding while on a learners licence and complaining your girlfriend left you and running up the arse of a bike in front of you isn't "bad luck". They are all consequences of his own doing.
The sort of person that can't comprehend this and blames things on everybody else (or bad luck) isn't the sort of person that should take up motorcycling. (unless they grow a brain asap)
hear hear...you just confirmed my assessment
he should grow up and go to some riding attitude classes

how old's this kid? you never do anything stupid? hell I know I did, I was probably lucky to make it to 21, sure he's stupid for drink driving or saying its bad luck, but the point he is he needs to learn the facts, back off when you're following, remember you have room to stop beside car/bike and brake progression, he dosnt need to be told
at least your smart enough to know when you're being talked about though
I think some people are talking the whole thing too literally. He had a shit week, yeah. Largely his own doing? yeah. Do accidents happen? yeah. Had several friends die on bikes on the road, and all of them were awesome, safe, careful riders, sometimes accidents happen, no matter how experienced/inexperienced you are. Im sure he will figure out what he can do to stop all this shit from happening again, and hopefuly he will undertake some mentoring or other riding courses, but I dont see the point effectively telling a learner they are stupid or whatever. We all learn at our own rate. some faster some slower. and we ALL make mistakes, maybe forgetting to indicate, or in a hurry braking in an emergency your fingers slip off the lever, it happens, and sometimes we dont even know we did it (the people behinds probably did though hahaha.
I hope the OP gets some lessons from an experienced rider, and stops drinking AT ALL if he is gonna ride. and learns to increase his following distance at all times. But I dont think (s)he is stupid or should be off the road, just think they should ask for some help, and I tend to think this thread is just that, a cry for help and advice.
Good luck to them.

Nope, I was just as squidly as the next person, thing is, I didn't get nicked for going 51kmph over my restricted speed, or was driving drunk, getting caught driving drunk, or lose my license and manage to bash a vehicle brand inbetween said circumstances.
You see, I didn't just go out and ride, I actively learnt how to ride before I endangered myself and others.
Bike is haunted? Sure mate, just like he was haunted into driving after drinking.

Two different times.
Matter of opinion lol
You dont know the circumstances or him, not a good track to go down. Personally I think hes a great guy.
Younger than 21. And how many people havent driven after having a drink or two. At least hes not older and doing it, better to be learning while "young and stupid".
Thank you.
