Ok, I think most of you guys kind of missed the points of difference in the Bourke Engine Design...

A big part of the concept is the scotch yoke used to tansfre the upsie downsie of the pistons to the roundie roundie need ed to spin wheels.

They show promise but as yet no-one has made one that works very efficiently in practice. (or if they have they are not telling)

A simple google search will reaveal plenty to anyone remotely interested.

Since we're on the subject of different engine designs and "inventions" here's the status of my current kickarse project.

My grunter PWM injected, optically timed, stainless steel ball bearing balanced short strokers. yeehaarr

My biggest challenge now, engineering wise, will be to lower the centre of gravity if I want to whack a bike cradle ontop/around this.

The oposed piston/cylinder deisel engine looks fuckin briliant. The thing wouldn't vibrate at all, has insane power figures. The only down side I can see, (for a car application), is the rate that the compression ramps up, it would eat starter motors for breakfast. Perhaps a hydrolic starter to sort that out.

Has the same motion in the crank as the Rotary.

Ummmm, the "crank" motion of a rotory, is the same as a conventional engine, it goes round and round, in a nearly perfect circle, compared to what it's housed in (only not perfect because of engineering tollerences). The thing that is different is how the rotor is driven from it. And still it doesn't resemble the o.p.o.c motor.
