I got such a fright i turned my handlebars sharply out of the way and (especially since it was wet) my bike and i went for a slide along the motorway!

That is an important lesson for learners. While I agree the person is an asshole for spooking a newbie like that, it is almost always the ensuing panic that kills you, and not so much the scary thing itself.

If I'm riding behind one of my newbies, I'll do an exaggerated finger-point at their L plate for the benefit of following traffic that is coming up quickly. I haven't really had something go bad yet - not that I didn't inadvertently create myself, anyway.

Well i learned that i gota be more confident in my riding skills, but it's not me that had a lesson to learn, it's the other dick on the road to give newbs a chance.

Meh - pass me if you desire. I gave up giving a hoot - I'd rather have them in front where I can see them instead of crowding my rear tyre like a P-fuelled arse bandit.
Besides if I start to tangle and get out of my personal comfort zone I start to f-up all the corners

meh, similiar thing happened to me on the 250..was on bridge..lane splitting, not very fast...gixxer out of nowhere zooms past me while im in the mid of 2 lanes..gave me such a fright ><...i get intimidated by bikes behind me when lane splitting too..makes me think whether im going too fast or too slow..

I think this was me, sorry if I gave you a fright. If I remember correctly you'd slightly pulled over and I thought you were giving me room, so I did the normal thing hit the gas and cruised through.

Although who knows what it a yellow gixxer?

Nothing wrong with a good spooking, it keeps you fucken alert afterwards - talking from personal experiences. But seriously if you're on a 250 with no balls lane splitting up the bridge you should pull in and let bigger bikes past you rather than hog the centre lane. Even more so if you're just learning and get spooked easily haha.

I went for a slide along the motorway once because a biker was talegating me while lane spliting once! I got a nice scar on my hip and my bike is scratched up.

I take it you were in your corduras and not leathers. I hate anything tail gating me, cage or bike. If I think I'm holding up some one I let them past.Normally I like going slightly faster than the prevailing traffic so don't have to worry about traffic behind me. Remember to treat everyone on the road as idiots biker and cager alike. I know because I've done some dumb arsed things whilst on my bike to.

I agree with the others. This does tend to be age related.

I have to say though that getting a chance to go to track day and get it out of your system helps as well.

Lead, follow or get out the raod.

If I am splitting and someone is obviously quicker than I care to be, I pull into the traffic and in order to remove any doubt as to what I am doing, I wave them through. Simple and no misunderstandings. Pull in behind them and use them as your decoy if you like.

Conversley If I see someone ahead, splitting or not, I am likely to speed up and catch them. Please understand this is not jealousy, having a go or small penis syndrome. It is self preservation. There are many good reasons why there is safety (from other road users) in numbers.

When i was younger I had to win by a week, now I'm happy to tuck in behind . I'll back off if i feel the person in front is in over his head.(and thats more often than you'd think !) I must have finally matured ? G.
