FUCK! Lookin' at that track layout I'm cruising around it in my head and all I'm seeing is 2nd gear corner, 2nd gear corner, 2nd gear corner. Elevation changes or not it's fukkin' Taupo mkII...........

No way in hell will it be Taupo mkII.

Besides the fact it's a right-hand track it has a number of long fast corners as well as the slow hairpins. This simulation kinda shows the rise and fall but it's nothing compared to how it'll be for real.

It seems like the walls on the sides would be a issue if a motorbike rider hit them, not sure which direction the travel is but either direction seems like a issue to me. Hope Im wrong but thats what it looks like is all Im saying
I've noticed the walls in the few pics that are on the web site. A little concerning I agree. I'm planning on making the next walk around day at the end of the month 26th I think and check it out for myself.
The circuit is clockwise I belive, I'm looking forward to it opening and giving us Auckland dudes another track to frequent but another concern is the price! twice the price of other circuits but if its twice as good

OOOh that vid was good.... the last bit shows the first bit to be like Paddock hill bend at Brands Hatch.... That is one awesome bend.

On their website they talk you through a simulated lap in an F3000 car, which'll corner faster than a bike, and the fastest corner is coming onto the kinked straight: 130kmh.

There are definitely some looong corners but nothing particularly fast. Don't get me wrong, it'll still be fun and challenging, but it's very PC with it's corner speeds. Not a high speed sweeper in sight.

Still, it's something different, and I can't wait to turn a tyre on it.

    nooooo, don't burst my bubble!
PC is not what I want! I'm hangin' out for some fast bends to mix it up some. Guess it was inevitable that it'd follow the way of the rest of the european "world class" "modern" circuits... I hope I'm wrong tho'!!!
Really hope my bubble hasn't been burst.

Drove past the other week and it's looking good.

Complaining about corner speed - I don't know. Pukekohe has got fast corners and everyone gripes about how dangerous they track is.

Can't wait till we get to to try it out. Must be time for a new bike....

Will be interesting to see how fast it really is. That might be mid corner but still, knee down for ages at 130 is all good as far as I'm concerned.

So are there any "track days" other than h.r.c. organised? How does one stick their name down? I checked out the web site and could find nothing of that ilk! Have I missed something?

    .
That's because of the lack of runoff and armco...not the fast corners. Talking of which, they're talking about sealed runnoff at Hampton Downs. Now that might slow down the cars........ The runoff at the end of the 750m back straight does not look nearly big enough.

    Any progress at the track?

Am I the only one who thinks it's weird the http://www.hamptondownsridedays.co.nz/ isn't ready yet?

Lets hope it doesn't all turn to chocolate.

It's not turning to custard, but money makes the world go round so once stuff starts happening, I expect the website will be completed.
