Now you guys have me a bit concerned here. I fill up my tyres with their heavy rims and tyres with ordinary air. I hope I dont have to go and find a supplier of heavy weight air now

Well, if you think that the alloy rims you are on at the moment are making any difference to how harsh your ride is then you're looking in the wrong place for an improvement.

Who said I was looking. I like my rims the way they are. I was just asking.

What lightweight rims do is decrease you're unsprung mass - the weight not being supported by your suspension. You are making a spinning part lighter so you the gyroscopic forces involved with changing direction are reduced - the bike is easier to turn, and because they are lighter your also make it easier for the bike to accelerate due to it not having to push as much weight. The same goes for braking - less spinning mass to slow down (think making a flywheel lighter) = better braking performance.

Tell me something I don't already know. Actually, I asked about something I didn't know and yet you told me something I already knew. If I had wanted to know something I already knew I would have said "Tell me something I already know". Maybe you just wanted other people to know what you already knew, or maybe you just wanted people to know that you already knew.

I don't think the stiffness of the wheel would translate to it being a harsher ride - more the point, did you see how high they bounce? That shows that they are infact pretty elastic, but without doing the same with a standard rim it's hard to say, but I'm guessing a standard rim wouldn't bounce nearly as much.

Finally some discussion on the subject. However, I fall on some learned knowledge from someone who already knew that pushbike forks out of carbon fell out of favour because of their stiffness, giving a harsh ride. I'm sure they bounced too when thrown on the floor.

So if someone already knows the answer ,could you let me know? Just out of interests sake.
