I guess you've never been to the Brass Monkey.

To think. These are the future leaders of the nation. Doctors. Lawyers. Dentists.

Yes it's heartening isn't it. : Thank goodness they show a bit of spirit and daring. Much better than the dry academic students who live in the libraries.

If Peter Chin wasn't so arrogant all this could have been avoided.

???? Its all Peter Chin's fault? Students get together, drink too much, burn a few couches.......but the Mayor is really to blame? We did this stuff in the 1970s but I can't recall him exhorting us on.......

how?????Peter Chin is doing his job of running the city and representing the majority of the inhabitants, i dont think he was down there lighting fires etc personally i couldnt give a shit if the students burnt the whole Castle/Dundas block out at least it would give the builders something to do, my boys play club hockey with students and i have to say i hant met one i didnt like, all nice kids but get a few grogs down their necks and i bet things are different BUT Otago Uni markets itself as a party uni so they have to take what comes with that.....years ago they used to have skyrocket fights with each other, when you have thousands of young people living in a compressed area they are going to have a party, its become a tradition to burn couches etc add to that the non students that turn up to cause trouble

The UCSA and ENSOC spent months organizing alternatives to the event but all were turned down flat by Peter Chin.

What are they training police to do?

Drunk student mouthing off at you = baton to the face/ pepper spray.

Completely mis-handled police showing very poor judgement.

Yeah cause all the students showed such outstanding judgement

Good job to, the only thing the Police did wrong was not setting dogs on them
