Riding up the horse's a***e (or why I am glad of emergency braking training)

On the road between Te Awamutu and Cambridge this morning...pootling along, (always within the speed limit of course! ) with a horse float being towed some distance in front of me. Sun is low and pretty well dead ahead so vision is not that great. There's a LH corner coming up - one I know and quite like...

Suddenly notice that the horse float seems to be looming rather more than it was before..."WTF?" I thinks...and notice that the float has stopped dead. In the middle of the lane. No brake lights. But a faint glow-worm of an indicator, almost totally obscured by mudflaps etc, showing intention to turn right, across the road. Just stopped dead. Car coming t'other way so can't go outside of him and besides he's gonna turn across, inne? No room to squeeze through left of him either - narrow road just there. Hafta stop I spose...errmmmm, now, lessee, I did a course once that covered this emergency braking stuff....

No real drama in the end. Them bikes stop quicker than you might think when they have to, despite a greasy road.

    Bum sure went "TWOING!" though...

Amazing what you remember and can do in emergency situations.

Amount of trailers which have no lights working shits me,and also ones from servos for hire, used one a while ago, checked lights ok,yep, then next time hit indicator they blew the fuse. And check the lights work at start then bulbs blow lol.

Gotta say horse floats can be a pain to follow, usually travel slower than caravans or trailers due to nature of load they carry.

Yerrrr. once in another life i used to tow a horse float..bastards of things. I bought a horse truck eventually. The horse was still a bastard though...

Trailers without working lights are indeed a pet hate of mine. Specially when the results are as above...

Yes, the assumption that a vehicle in the midde of the road is actually moving at some speed (however slow) is a reasonable one to make.

Agree that bikes can stop really quickly (I got ABS)
