Cheers, Dave
Leave some bowls of water around the house and lock them in the house. They'll be fine
BTW - hows the hernia??
If I take the KLR I'll ride (the trailer is only designed for 3 trail bikes so the KLR would break it).If I take the DT I'll probably trailer it - it aint much fun on the open road (yeah I know I should just HTFU).
Decisions Decisions Decisions....
Mark, you would do all of those trails in pissing rain without a problem on the KLR, on the DT it would be a very easy trail ride.
Depends on the experience you wish for.
This isn't meant to be judgemental, more informative.
Iain.
I don't know about 'without a problem' - the KLR has scars from laydowns on Fishers (EddieB's fault - he had a camera - the prick) and Old Whanga Rd (Freds fault - he should have thrown himself under the bike as I cross rutted....)
I was thinking of taking the DT to allow a bit more exploring freedom but we shall see...
you happy with the paint shaker?
There are a lot of off piste trails off the 42nd, I believe (someone told me??) that there is a trail map available of all of this lot from some organisation, DOC?, in the central plateau area, I will see if I can find out some more info.
DT / KLR.... I was pleasantly surprised how rideable both Fishers & 42nd where on the paint shaker (I like that, also bloody apt) so thought you had a reasonable choice of either, obviously your call.
Paint shaker....horrible on the seal for more than 30 minutes but lovely on tracks, sand, beaches, mud, grass & gravel. I'm back in my happy space or maybe its early onset dementia? Seriously, suits me well, I want the flexibility to go anywhere solo and with this bike I can but there is a serious road going ability trade off, not that its bad on road but there is a huge gap from the 990 to the 640 in comfort & road handling.
