    Peak Rd Riders and SH16

To those of you that enjoy the thursday night and weekend rides that pass down Peak rd towards SH16 Please slow down!

i am appauled by the group on thursday nights in particular. there are large sections of the road that are 80k ! past the kindy ! the straight after the church!

engage your brains the 80k area's are there for a reason and you are giving the rest of us that use these roads a really bad name.

it is impossible for some of us to safely exit our driveways on bikes or in cars with you idiots doing 140+ through blind sections of the road. the entry onto peak rd from SH16 is not a corner to get your knee down! it leads into the 80k area.

someone is going to get killed!

I personally have never seen anyone 'get their knee down' on the corner at the top of Peak Road. If you are seeing people getting their knee down going from SH16 on to Peak Road then it's not the ATNR ride as we go the other way (Old North - Peak - SH16 - Kahikatia)

My recent experiences have been that the ride is being conducted barely braking the speed limit, and the 80kmh areas in particular are adhered to - more so because that's where the cops are likely to hide and ping riders. It's not perfect, but it's a far cry from 2006/2007 when it was literally almost a race to the pub and it wasn't uncommon for over half of the group to do parts of the ride at well over 200kmh.

where opinion holds more weight than fact.

It's better to not pass and know that you could have than to pass and find out that you can't. Wait for the straight.

Dont blame the ATNR, we religiously do 80kph down that hill since its been an 80kph area due to the ginga.

    Reason to slow anyway:

Given that a cyclist was killed there recently, todays Harold advises even more police will be in the Peak Rd/SH16 doing stops for info about the white ute involved in the death. All would be well advised to slow down or avoid the area.....

great to hear that you are watching the speed limits around there. believe me when i say i don't want to see anyone hurt.

i know the way the ride goes, but i am sure that the same riders also pass back down the road.

the police were out there yesterday morning at about 10am breath testing everyone on peak rd. while talking to them they bought up the need to police the whole area heavily on thursday nights because of "Kiwibikers highspeed run". so i would say you guys will meet them regularly over the next few months.

there could be older kids using the playground though. i know a lot of kids use school playgrounds outside of hours, so no reason why they wouldnt use a kindy in the same way.

Hey, not only the kids, I have a property on ONR, not far from the Peak Rd intersection, and I quite often see you guys hurl past at "barely over the speed limit" (I do it too, where I can...)

I ride that road every day, I also drive a tractor over the highway most evenings, sometimes on the blind brow outside the gate, and believe me you have NO chance of surviving a collision with big red.

All I'm saying is ride to the condiions and the visable road in front of you.
