Yes, but as you know - praise from your mother is not worth that much, but you better keep your ears open when she passes you criticism.

Patting Les' back just because you feel we should provide "unconditional support" is unhelpful. Providing honest and to-the-point feedback is paramount - especially if he is going to be the one representing the bikers' case in this.

All of that said, bloody good effort from Les. Yes, he appeared somewhat nervous - but hell, he kept it together nicely and was both tactful and direct in his address. I can't see what else we could possibly want - except more exposure.

Just watched it at TVNZ Ondemand. I thought Ixion did a good job, he came across as a real person vs the suited corporate drone from ACC. And hammering him on the figures was important - that "highschool maths" line from Weds night is a good one, don't be afraid to reuse it in every interview.

I work in TV so I'd like to offer a couple of tips - when you're doing a live with a reporter, like CloseUp tonight, it really helps to watch your eyeline - ie where you're looking. Whenever you're talking, talk to the reporter, lock your eyes on him. You're supposed to talk straight into the camera if you're addressing the guy in the remote studio (ie the ACC GM) but in a multi-camera studio you're not always going to pick up on which is the live camera, so it's best to ignore the cameras, ignore the big-screen TV showing the other guy, and just talk to Sainsbury. "Well Mark, despite what Mr Wossiname just said, here are the real figures...."

In a remote live setup like you had last night for 3 with their SNG kit, keep your focus straight down the camera. Non-professionals always find this hard, but you're most effective when you're looking straight into the lens. Don't think you're addressing a large audience, it's about 1-on-1 conversation.

If you do a taped interview during the day, for use on that night's news, you should eyeball the reporter/interviewer, not the camera. I know it's a conflicting set of arbitrary rules, but that's how TV works.

Good on you for offering this up - as a screen media guy myself, I'll testify that it's good stuff. But perhaps forward it on to Les himself. I don't think the title of this thread is especially encouraging for him to be browsing.

And kudos to him for keeping cool in the pressure cooker of the TV studio. It's much, much harder than you imagine, guys.

Best thing about Les, was that he was prepared. ACC guy was obviously not. That took him by surprise.

I think the Interview was fantastic. Wel done Ixion. That prick in the suit looked so dumb when he was directly confronted.

    +1 vote for Uncle Les

+1 vote for Ms Klingon too

First time I've seen Les Mason and I'm dead set sure hes a good man and good for us. Initially you kind of stepback and then warm forward. He seems much brighter than most people and mentally very agile in the snake pit.

The public of New Zealand is a beast of magnificent proportions. Best we keep Les to tame the monster. Stinking thieves and liars our destroying freedom and democracy.

Who else will say "I will slay this dragon?"

A woman biker next to Les would be a good idea.

Also a Mr Suit lawyer jabbering on about fairness, and Mr Suit accountant on our side would look good too.

At the end of the day, will the battlefront be on the street? In the hands of everyone....

I have visited some other bikers this week to rouse and inspire, and even if its true that some of them are maybe not worth saving, at least not now, some things in life are.

    Good on you Les.

I thought it was good. Obviously there were more points that could/should/would have been nice to have put across, but considering the way it's controlled and the short length of the segment he did really well.

Well done Ixion you came across as a Burt Monroe type and raised images of a tinkering in the garage and polishing in the driveway typical kiwi bloke, exactly the kind of person joe public can identify with. And exactly the impression we need to make right now.

For those that dont understand the heart of this matter is the false economics being spouted by the Nats and ACC, if we want the public to believe the figures we are telling them we need to gain their trust and Les looks as trustworthy as anyone I've ever met. Think about who you would trust and the rest should fall into place.
