One has to laugh at the ACC rebuttal to the comment that this supposed cross subsidy of $70 x 3 million car regos is way in excess of the stated figures for motorcycle claims.

"blah blah Ernest and Young blah blah so I have no doubt the figures are correct".

    Well done Mr ACC...

As for the thread itself... Looks like we have our "face of the biker" sorted but as Ixion himself said we do need the slick media person to get the soundbites in if we want to keep up momentum.

    Someone like this ideally... http://www.safermotorways.co.uk/feature31_video_003.htm

I work in TV so I'd like to offer a couple of tips - when you're doing a live with a reporter, like CloseUp tonight, it really helps to watch your eyeline - ie where you're looking. Whenever you're talking, talk to the reporter, lock your eyes on him. You're supposed to talk straight into the camera if you're addressing the guy in the remote studio (ie the ACC GM) but in a multi-camera studio you're not always going to pick up on which is the live camera, so it's best to ignore the cameras, ignore the big-screen TV showing the other guy, and just talk to Sainsbury. "Well Mark, despite what Mr Wossiname just said, here are the real figures...."

In a remote live setup like you had last night for 3 with their SNG kit, keep your focus straight down the camera. Non-professionals always find this hard, but you're most effective when you're looking straight into the lens. Don't think you're addressing a large audience, it's about 1-on-1 conversation.

If you do a taped interview during the day, for use on that night's news, you should eyeball the reporter/interviewer, not the camera. I know it's a conflicting set of arbitrary rules, but that's how TV works.
Can you put that in the resource thread , as well as any other good ideas , because there maybe a few others doing the on tv thing

    thats some good advice

Given that Ixion was having to deal with a COMPLETE twat reporter with a complete innability to listen (obviously good reporting credentials) he did marvelously. Given his contribution throughout this forum, I tend to think there arent many others I would want above him as a representative.

You on the other hand sir, have made a rather short sighted cunt of yourself...not dissimilar to the aforementioned reporter.
Nice post and as I can't be arsed reading any more bollocky tall poppy syndrome bullshit ...seems as per usual there are plenty of whingers willing to pick holes in the efforts of others but there aren't many of them coming forward OR offering much helpful to the situation - Put up or shut up as MIXONE said.

On the note of the item last night I would just like to say....IXION...I know what you look like

Seriously though - Well done chap - loved it when you challenged him on the 'cost' of the release of the figures and then stated you wanted the detail BEHIND them too. That ACC guy was totally unconvincing I thought.

    ...good stuff.

have you seen the limp coverage we've received so far?

Ixion your awesome! I loved the way you got right to the point and then stuck it to him at the end when you told him we've asked for his data and ACC told us it would cost $10,000! hahaha "oh ah ah ah....I find that hard to belive"

by the way the guy from Campbell live promised you his figures the other night too, have you had any luck getting those?

And at some stage there may be a need for a whining, negative pillock.
And Lee.J and Katman can apply

Lets not take Katmans posts to out of context, he DID NOT bag Ixion, he merely stated he felt there COULD have been a better person for the job !!

For those that dont understand the heart of this matter is the false economics being spouted by the Nats and ACC, if we want the public to believe the figures we are telling them we need to gain their trust and Les looks as trustworthy as anyone I've ever met. Think about who you would trust and the rest should fall into place.
    Exactly my sentiments.

We need to get the general public to support us. That is the whole idea of media coverage. I feel that there must be a better spokesperson for our cause.
The general public will at best remain indifferent. The best we can do is make the politicians consider the loss of our votes and the rise of some awkward and damaging public disobedience, and the ACC the loss of good PR.

There IS no right person for the job that Ixion did. Except Ixion, perhaps. Sure he was nervous and a bit 'stiff'... So? He never got rattled, he never got emotional, he did not let a thing the talking head said slip past unchallenged and disproved. Barb after barb struck home, and no answer from the ACC chief. And just how much of the country got to see a very ordinary late-middle aged Kiwi defend a whole class of road users in a clearly dispassionate, well-informed manner? Paired with the stumbling, inept handing of a media opportunity for ACC to put their case? "The figures have been sent to Australia for checking..." ?? FFS
Ixion - you done super good, old fella.
Do you realise how many holes there could be if people would just take the time to take the dirt out of them?

First of all, thank you Les for standing up for our community.

second, thank you Les for fronting up on TV two nights running and calmly stating our concerns.

The right person for this role is someone who is calm, patient and analytical, Les is doing exactly that.

So let us all get in behind and support Les, KBers.

Once again, thank you Les, fantastic work.

I've tried to show some interest in biker politics in the past, but I just could'nt get excited about it. Close friends have been involved with BRONZ for years which has allowed me a window into some of the battles they have fought over the years, but I figured i didn't have the right temperament for wading through all the associated bullsh!t. (Speaking of which, i feel like I deserve a medal for wading through the 12 pages of this thread . . . . )

Anyhoo, I went to the BRONZ meeting on Wednesday evening, partly to show some solidarity for BRONZ and partly to get a better handle on what we're dealing with. Trying to find useful information on KB is a mission, and one fraught with frustration. I'd met Ixion previously on a BFTP ride earlier this year, and was mildly amused at the sight of him in a suit - kinda looked like a struggling small town undertaker - but he rapidly gained my respect with the fair and focussed manner in which he dealt with a disgruntled and diverse group united only by a tenuous cord, namely a common enemy.

I've watched both TV interviews on line, and agree that he looked like an unlikely spokesperson on TV3, but the interview with Sainsbury on TV1 was exactly what motorcyclists needed: someone with a clear, sharp mind and a complete absence of attitude. All one gets in a brief interview is the opportunity for a Tua-like jab or two, and Ixion took that opportunity with clarity and purpose. Mr ACC looked just like the overpaid civil servant he is.

Right now, a frontman who looks comfortable in his own skin, has clarity of thought and a slightly cynical outlook on life is ideal for leading this cause.

Ixion, I dips m'lid to you sir.
