i really need to ask something
several bikers i know now no longer want to ride as they note and i do agree that unless we ride through wellington and then park at the stadium we are going to make no visual impact.
what is the plan for the ride as it stands at the moment. is it we turn into aotea key then straight to parlament or is it we ride past parlament and then onto the stadium.
and if not the later is there any chance of the later.

I think we have to be fair here and take a balanced view. The police message would be that they don't want the CBD disrupted, so best way around this would be to park the bikes out of the way at the stadium and cause the least disruption.
To be fair, trying to find parking for 4-5000 bikes in the CBD would be a nightmare and would cause chaos for both the bikes and other traffic. This could result in very few people being at the rally when the time comes for the speeches - as they would be stuck in a big line of traffic.
This would seriously piss off a whole lot of people and cause chaos to the organaisers.
However, there may well be some amongst us that say we may be paying the price for being the "nice guys". Park here then - go here then - and at all times do as you are told and at all times BE NICE!
I tend to side with the organisers on this issue. the facts are we could get excellent media coverage of we blocked the streets of the CBD. But would it be painting us (or the issue) in a positive light? Could we lose important support as a result?

Yep. The time for angry-disruptive behaviour is later.
I for one would be happy to park me and my bike in the middle of a busy Wellington intersection at rush-hour; for a relaxed cup of coffee while the cars beep away and the busses try to run me over.
...but that's for later.
(EDIT: or someone on a bicycle could "accidentally" crash into the Minister while he's walking to his car. Bu wa ha haaa.)
Measure once, cut twice. Practice makes perfect.
i know and i do support the behave thing but one thing one of my mates noted was that we may be seen as a buch of ruffians wearing leather if there is no bike to support the point.

I note (without condoning any implications) that the stadium parking will be for the organised convoy coming down SH1 and 2.
Molesworth St will still be reserved for bike parking for what the police are calling "wild geese" - riders who arrive independantly. eg riders from the South Island riding in from the Interislander terminal.
Neither the BIKEOI organisers nor BRONZ (nor the police for that matter) have any ability to prevent riders making their own way to parliament by whatever route they choose , and parking in Molesworth St
(Parking within parliament itself was never an option)

Lets put things into perpective here. If 2000 bikes leave Avalon and 2000 bikes leave Paremata around the same time, the front of the groups will be merging at the bottom of the gorge with the back of the groups still back somewhere around Tawa/Maungaraki.
With the number of bikes taking part, you could be looking at a 6-10k snake. As we reach the CBD, believe me, we will be noticed.
However, at the moment we have got a lot of public support and totally disrupting Wellington will not help our cause. It will only alienate us and reduce the public support.
As already stated, there isn't anywhere other than the stadium capable of holding that number of bikes whilst still allowing the riders to make it to parliament on foot. The police and council have a requirement that for the number of people, adequate toilet facilities must be provided. The organisers (actually organiser - cheers stoney) have managed to get sponsorship from various places to provide said toilets.
We have to be thankful that the Stadium management are allowing us to use the facility.
(For the record, we have to steam clean the place after everyone has left - don't over lube your chain folks and if she normally leaks even the slightest bit of oil, put some newspaper down underneath. It will make the clean up so much easier).
Yes we want to make our statement, but the 17th is the time to give them the clear message without the disruption. It is a time for clear heads and putting the sensible shoes on. Not using the steel capped boots approach.
I'm only wearing black until they develop something darker
We came, We listened, And in one voice we answered
BULLSHIT!! BULLSHIT!! BULLSHIT!! BULLSHIT!! BULLSHIT!!
And please remember ... the TV camera crews are ONLY there because they want to see someone fall off. In as spectacular way as possible preferably. Something they can use to lead into the six-o-clock news.
Failing that, a really good shot of some gloveless Harawira mofo doing a wheelie up Molesworth Street.
If they get one of those they will play it and play it and play it again.![]()
it is stupid the bad cover we as moterbikers get just because of a few idiots. and on that note i have thought of a new thing for my sig

Ok everyone, lets make one last simple statement of this
The reserved parks at Parliament will have Marshalls bikes and Wildcards as well as SEVERAL disabled riders uitilizing them, Labour will place EVERY motorcycle the MPs can rise themselves inside on the day so we WILL have visible bikes at the protest
We OWE Westpac and the Police and the Council a HUGE debt of gratitude, if not for there assistance and somewhat neutral flavored support, this could NOT possibly happn.
Our city officials have welcomed our protest, they could easilly have shut us down with a few well placed barriers
Inspector Peter Baird has been at our planning meetings and ensured the NZTA, Council and Westpac Trust are all onside, we owe Pete a few beers to be blatantly honest
When the Cenotaph got stained we nearly lost our permits, and Westpac came onside
If we were to shut down the CBD of Wellington, my morning 'ghost lane' would vanish (no shit most Wellington cagers MAKE room for us on our motorway, lets keep it that way)
I have had truckies, tractor drivers (the council groundsman) and old lasies in cages toot support at my BIKEOI protest vest (thanks Scary Sewing Circle)
Lets keep the Capital populace ONSIDE, we can get millitant later on

Just ride.
There is enough info floating around for us to be seen.....and come on lets face it like ppl have said when we all start making our way to parliment ppl are going to see us for sure.....Peaceful is the best way to do it with the cops and council onside we are going to look like respectful bikers who are being wrongfully done and not just a bunch of asshole making a mess and upsetting ppl.....thats not what the day is about
DIRTY DEEDS DONE DIRT CHEAP
Don't wait for the perfect moment......Take the moment & make it perfect.
Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass.....It's about learning to dance in the rain.
It is apparent to me that MANY motorcyclists, and their families are very irrate about these ACC levy increases.
I dont think the Govt are aware how passionate many motorcyclists are about their motorbikes and riding them, and how this passion will stick with through to the next election, if the rates stay as proposed.
I pay many taxes, I have four cars and two motorbikes, and all are registered, and a good paying job, so I pay my fair share of tax, I am a careful rider and don't get booked by police, and my insurance policies are all clean. Yet Bloody ACC want to charge me MORE!!
THIS PISSES ME OFF BIG TIME.
I encourage every biker, friends and family to protest big time and if this has no effect let your VOTE talk at the next election.
I have 3 push bikes I guess they will tax me to use the new NZ cycleway once built.
National Voter...we will see??
I concur with your sentiments Rocketman1, I am in the same position as yourself and this makes my blood boil. I protested in 93 on this issue, and still here to do the same on Tuesday, because self preservation is priority when riding, a point ACC cannot grasp. We are not all going to crash and burn and be dependants of the state for the rest of our lives as ACC is feverishly trying to convince the public of NZ of. I believe we may have a deformation case against ACC for actively campaining against motorcycling to promote and justify their cock-up. Food for thought??? Safe riding everyone, see you all on Tuesday.
