I don't know if our family paid for their land with muskets but I know they did get to see their land.- Ferry landing side of Whitianga.
Unfortunately for them the Crown, generously and retrospectively, set aside all land deals that had been completed for some period prior to the signing of the Treaty of Waitangi.
Gave the land back to the Maori without compensation to those dispossessed of their land.

I certainly looks like the informed gossip that HH was unhappy with the direction the party was going was correct, as was the suggestion that he'd make them sack him to boost his radical credentials, rather than resigning.

I always thought that the Maori party wouldn't be able to hold together long term as the usual left-right issues would eventually pull apart...didn't think it would be this soon though.
