I mentioned vegetables once, but I think I got away with it...........
I considered doing the tent trip down, but bugger it, by the time I buy a tent/new sleeping bag/all the other gear you need, I could probably stay in 5 star hotels the whole trip for less, so I am just going to camping ground cabin/motel/b&b my way south, and because of the 690's lack of ability to carry much gear, makes that seem like the logic choice for me.
But I do intend on stealing my bro's gear and heading backwoods for a night or two, but a week of it going soth does not appeal so much.

Comming down from the NAKI.
Which one of my 16 bikes will I bring??Actually,12 are stuffed
,or in bits,so choice aint that hard.
What gravel can I "DO" on the way down??? (got a son in Nelson)Will I tie in with some other N.I. "nutters??
Couple of Q,s---
---Can you still buy those "CLICK CLACK" boxes??----
made one once ,with another breed of box but the top is a bit opaque (hard to see through.) Used 12mm wooden dowell for the rollers & put "H2GO" blue caps on ,for handles/knobbs,after knockin out the "pull-knobb" part.Fitted perfectly. If I remember right,---(bit senile)--had trouble drilling the holes for the axles,so heated a knife sharpening steel on a stove element,("she who rule,s" moaned abought the stink)& poked that through.
---Ferry discounts----
Just a thought, don,t suppose there,s any chance of getting fare discounts organised, like was available for the "BERT MUNRO"----I guess "INTERISLANDER" ,---WERE-- sponsers for them??![]()
Ferry discount shouldn't be too hard to get.
Thats bloody helpfull!!!:
If I take a 410 sawnoff shotgun--I might persuade em ,---well10% @ least.![]()
Just finished uploading a new vid to Youtube from our Otago Adventuring in June 2008.
It includes some of the roads/tracks/passes involved in the Southern Dusty Butt but hopefully without the snow and with shallower fords in summer.
See it here... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NZiT_Bz7Yeo

Ok...Heading down south 9th or 10th, taking the long way down to the ferry, lots of metal and maybe a ride north first...
Then, heading across on the 3am ferry 11th Jan. After that, dunno?
Plan is to have breakfast in Blenheim or Picton...Hit the Port Underwood Rd, down to Molesworth, do that and sleep either in Hanmer or on the Molesworth. Prefer to nap out in the wild....
Next day, up to Rainbow, up to Nelson area, back roads, Mo...(5 mins out of town, from Nellywood..) or whatever it is called...
Ride across and then as I will be back on the East coast I suppose, head somewhere for the night.
I want to get to Reefton, do some mine and river roads, Porika and the Braeburn, then meander down to Fairlie.....
I think four days to get to Fairlie is good and leaves plenty of time to ride....Doesn't get dark till late and I am a very early riser..
Coming home....Well, I have another two whole days, maybe three, I will explore the Catlans possibly or head up to Mid Canterbury and do some of those other roads that might get me lost, in trouble and maybe even sideways...
Anybody keen to sort of do this, loosley organised, lots of Kilometres? Might meet for a yarn or coffee....Maybe exchange numbers to rendezvous?
