Gaaaaah, only half finished putting the vapour in the DR.(dash, Nordie.....dash, before you make a smart comment)
I could tag along on the Triumph, if you don't mind being seen with a "roadie"
Mrs Jatz could join us too, if shee can rustle up a bike

What time ? I/we would hook up at the Riwaka pub

I'm in, but can't get away from Nelson till about 9.30... got to change a tyre and do a couple of other little jobs b4 I go. Bike is still in trail-ride trim.
    Cheers,
    Colin

    That was fun.

The trip back over the hill was brilliant. I kept hitting the traffic at places I could easily pass.
From the hill to home was sooooo slow as I caught up to the rest of the 60 in a 100 zone traffic...

So it was Jatz & Mrs Jatz on the Trumpy, Warewolf on the 640A&E, Clint on the 640E, Rosie on the Supertanker Sherpa, umopom on the 690E and me on the DR.

    Is orange the new black?

Good to finally meet Rosie & Clint and I still haven't got the chicken coop done

Soooo you guys didn't get to Takakaka then ? We waited at the power house, had a coffee, kicked some clods then pootled into town for a milkshake. Met UMoPom just as we were leaving.
I left MrsJatz on top of the hill on the way home she was talking to some harley riders..................
Came home and got the truck to winch some guys Buell back up onto the road, he'd parked it in a tree down a bank. Damn, bikes are awkward when the only thing holding the front together is the dash wires.
Nice to meet you Clint and Rosie, although it was only briefly

A little side note: I stopped on the Maungatap the other day to find out what the story was with a heap of MTBers going up the track right on dusk; stopped the bike, took helmet off, said "hello" and the tosser rode straight past, woulda roosted 'im but I was slowing for a corner when I went past him again
Any hoo, turns out it was some sort of big race type thingy, woulda been easier with a motor on the bike,
I've had it trying to be nice to people - all people out there really. Road cyclists have a rep of being stuck up & yep pretty true (used to race roadies with Wheelers). Mountainbikers have a deluded sense of laidback coolness & comaradery. After riding past & with so many riders & not even getting a nod or acknowledgement when greeting them with a G'day or smile I just put on my race face & become as disaffected as they are. Sad really...

Anyway a couple of friends were doing that race over the maunga. It was part of the Kiwi Brevet. 1200kms over a minimum of 4 days with a minimum of 4hrs sleep each nite. It ran Blenheim to Blenheim via Port Undewear, Queen charl. , Munga, lake Rotoiti, Reefton, Big River area, moana, Hawarden way, Molesworth back to Blenheim. They all carried SPOTs so following the event was quite easy.

The reason he didn't stop (well aprt from being an arrogant arsehole) was he would have been shitting himself coming down on his cyclocross bike with cantilever brakes

I'm back from Westport after the Buller half & glad to be home. Westport may have some amazing riding but jeez it really is a depressing shithole. man I love Nelson.
Any one want to do a trip out to Hori bay one evening? - They're starting to get shorter

    Interestin post Padwan
Ummm. actually I suspect he didn't stop 'cause he was arrogant and maybe didn't want to break his cadence (?) going up hill, it wasn't that steep anyway. On the upside though we did have a bit of a chat to some at the summit, nice people, planning on touring south america on m/bikes.
I've found the same sort of arrogant attitude with a few/lot of 4wders for some reason, I could go on but it's not the time or place for it
I'd be up for a trip to Hori Bay perhaps. Must put the bike back together first

Great day out, despite staying out later than planned... by about 6 hours

clint640, rosie! and myself peeled off the SH at East Takaka Rd, then decided to head out to Pohara for lunch at the beach, courtesy of Rosie's panniers. You must've been heading south on the SH at that time. After a leisurely lunch watching the Bay we scooted in to Takaka for go-juice, thence back over the Hill to Monkey Wizard brewery. Rosie copped the overtakers from hell and made virtually no progress through the traffic for the entire up 'n' over, poor girl! The downside of a small bike unfortunately. After the recent top end refresh, and still running short trail gearing spinning 5000rpm @ 100km/h, the 640A was passing stuff effortlessly and still returned better than 5.0 L/100km for the day!!

Clint & Rosie sampled some bevvies and bought some takeaways as the brewery doesn't have an on-licence, then we kept going to the Moutere Inn and had a pleasant round of Mussel Inn's Captain Cooker Manuka beer. Fitting given that while we were lunching, my cell phone was connected to the Collingwood site. Trivia: the Moutere has had 120 different beers since opening on 14/10/2008.

I have to say, I'm not used to a measly 200+km touring range from the 12L E tank, and the seat is a shocker for touring! But oh so wonderful for trail riding, when you want a narrow tank and low seat height.

Nice to catch up with the norfern pair, and the rest of youse. There's quite a few side tracks up the Cobb that would be worthy of exploring.
    Cheers,
    Colin
