Well I think it looks nice, shaft drive to me is a feature.

Well after all the speculation I think it has delivered more than expected as far as technology goes. Traction control, ABS, some D thingy mod.
I haven't managed to see a pic of one without the ugly pannier boxes tho. As far as intial appearance goes it follows in the same directon as the Tenere.
Plentiful well thought out accessories - obvoiusly listened to the people wanting to buy one.
A GS? - Yep pretty much so but then that's the brand it would be competing against as it would have to be pretty special to coax a fanatical KTM rider away from their marque.
Would i buy one? Hmmm if I was to really ride around the world or do really big miles cos that's what it looks like to me - a big serious mileage machine - like a BMW 1200 GS.
I'll carry on researching but yeah I think Yamaha's delivered a biggie this time.
Hitcher likes. Yamaha have considerable experience in Paris Dakar and other endurance events. They're obviously looked hard at what riders in this category need in a bike. This is a brand new bike rather than a 660 on steroids or viagra. It has all the niceities and knick knacks required by a rider who plans to do considerable saddle time. Hmmm. 23 litre tank and a shaft. Nice.

Two more thoughts (I am a bit slow tonight);
Traction control, I can just see the problems if that failed in the middle of no where (although does the GSA have it?)
Exhaust and cut away pannier, I wonder if they tried to tuck the exhaust up under the seat eg like the 990, which would not have affected the volume of the pannier
I still like the look of it though, it is good to have another option.
Padmei, if you play the video on the Yamaha site, there is a shot of the bike at the end less panniers.
I like it. Very cool....
I mentioned vegetables once, but I think I got away with it...........
Spot on. It's a Jedi bike, with a different badge on it.
Can't blame them for cashing in though. Comments in the bike mags at the moment are noting a consolidation of 'big bike' models and focusing on high volume cheap small bikes for emerging markets. Which means that our niche within a niche is going to have slim pickings for a while.

You are right, it is a brand new bike, apart from the similarity to the TDM engine. This bike has little material association with Yamaha's Paris-Dakar efforts, but all of the marketing. It is much more a Super TDM than a Super Tenere. The Tenere was always a glorified trail bike, this thing has no such pretensions, and as such I feel they have mis-appropriated the name.

If I were touring around the world wouldn't pick a bike that cannot lift in the eventual situation bike is laying on the ground ...
So far they re-did Tenere which is again heeeeavy and this one which is heavier... they are surely nice looking road bikes.
That ain't a bike. It's a 2 wheeled car. Right up there with the Honda Goldwing![]()
