    Today's Sideswipe

    Uneasy rider

Peter Offer writes: "Could you put a note in the paper for the person on the motorcycle riding northbound over the Auckland Harbour Bridge this morning? Being a learner motorcyclist weaving across all lanes at speeds of up to 30 km/h above the speed limit with no lights on in the dark will at least guarantee I won't have to watch out for you much longer."
    • Learner - check
    • 30 km/hr above speed limit (I go 100, not in the 80 zones, but the 100 zones.) - check
    • No lights - dang, not me. My lights work.

Anyone know who this could be?

How does Peter Offer know it was "30 kph above the speed limit" ?

I suspect this really means "a learner motorcyclist lane splitting past me at speeds a bit greater than the 'limit less 5kph ' shown by my wildly optimistic speedo pisses me off. "

I find myself consistently surprised at how many people know what a cock sounds like. Mine's pretty quiet.

Who really knows how the learner in question was riding, though. I've been in a car with people who negotiate corners at the speeds on the recommendation signs. I suspect they would consider my driving exceedingly reckless. Perspective varies.

It was me, I plead guilty...

All jokes aside, the ride into work this morning was just epic. Cold damp air + GSXR1000 = fun times...

    Cold air = more power
    damp air = less power
therefore cold damp air = same power as normal?

Actually, both cold air and damp air will give more power, and cold damp air will be best.

Cold air means more air in the cylinders so more fuel can be burned and more power produced.

Damp air (such as Hamilton fog) means water droplets entering the cylinder without displacing any of the fuel going into the cylinder, and on combustion the liquid water turns to steam and expands 760 times, thus producing more power.

Add cold to damp, and that's the best conditions for more power production.

Perhaps they could also help the motorcyclist on the coatsville riverhead highway this morning with his lights on full beam behind me.
It really doesn't pay to piss off car drivers, even if some of them do ride motorcycles.
