I'm fairly sure that the Wonderbar, in fact the whole building apart from the wee place down stairs, is all closed, including the super market. Also the parking out back is Wilson Parking now, you gotta pay during the day, dunno about night ...
As for other places in Lyttelton, there are many pubs along Norwich Quay but they're all pretty seedy. Unless you're a hard core local or a Russian sailor that hasn't had his hit of vodka this morning, they're best to be sampled with caution ...

That being said, it's been a while since I was in one of them but they don't look to have changed at all ... You never know.

[QUOTE=Transalper;1129877738]...a rookie move from someone sneaking up through my blind spot to appear on my left in my lane, in my escape zone...
    /QUOTE]

    Wasn't dressed in blue/orange hi-vis overalls?
Because then you missed the idiot (NOT part of the WNR - dressed in hi-viz blue/orange/reflectorised overalls) in the Tunnel, who, immediately as I came out of the Tunnel and headed around the roundabout, undertook me on the LEFT and continued on his way around the 'bout. Later, it turned out he had undertaken (i.e. on the left, again) another member of our party IN the Tunnel. He then continued on to harrass a green Ninja before blasting off into the distance. I hope there was a good reason for it all (and I can't think of one), and that the rider was not just late for dinner...

Nope, was before we met that guy. Saw that one coming and got out of his way about quarter way through the tunnel and watched him doing all sorts stupid shit through to the exit including round you on round the roundabout but lost sight of him soon after, guessing he turned off.
Had contemplated following him to his destination then reporting it back here for all to know but no way of doing that without being as big a dickhead as he was to try keep up.
His antics were far worse than the rookie I was talking about who was with us.

Went to Lyttleton on Tuesday night and the Wunderbar was closed and is likely to be closed for awhile.

My route suggestion would be BK-Halswell-Tai Tapu-Gebbies-Dyers Pass Road-Brickworks for shorter rides. For longer rides, go around the bays, through Lyttleton tunnel, and then Centaurus road finish at Brickworks.

Loving the pics Peetey. The mighty GL looks a tad small for me though doesn't it? Still, if you look really carefully, it snuck into 3 pictures

Good to see you all had a great ride , we missed it unfortunately as my son's bike decided to have a breakdown on the way - starter motor packed up , took it straight to the shop and hopefully we can pick it up tomorrow for the Saturday ride.

I agree Great pics Pete thanks for coming into town and taking them!!!

A big thanks for those who have contributed ideas on where we ride.

I want you to know I appreciate your effort. Please continue to think and look for other routes and venues. When something looks good or promising please either let me or Flip know, or post your thoughts on this thread.

To the person who appears in Transalpers post If you want to play "silly buggers" go and do it somewhere else. Hereford Street/Cambridge Tce is a good place to be a wanker. Not on a WNR.
And remember ...... if it hasn't got one of "Uncle Flip's" prosthetic kickers it isn't a real motorbike!!!

I'll put in a vote for the Tai Tapu Pub as well. It's a great place to end (or start) a ride.

What was with the regroup two blocks away from BK? Seems we were stopping more often than going.

Just want to point out one thing and its probably a Harley thing. When riding in staggered formation I don't or won't change from right to left wheel track or vice versa. I do expect that in staggered formation that a rider who is out of sink to move up or pull back to keep the gap between bikes on the same side of the road to 2 second and about a second gap to the bike diagonally in front. But only is staggered formation.

I like staggered formation in town, it keeps the overall length of the bike stream to a minimum, it means that a car can't pull out into the group and well it looks IMHO cool.

Pass the big fat grumpy old prick on the Harley on the left riding normally single file and well......
    Just another leather clad Tinkerbell.

Yeah, there was a bit of that last night. Good ride otherwise though, lots of new faces for me and not a lot of time to say hi turning up late as usual.

Another suggestion for somewhere we don't normally ride to, out to motukarara and around the lake to through leeston to wherever there's a pub that's still standing?

I even made a mappy thing

Someone a bit more familiar with the roads out there might be able to comment if it's a really crap idea or not.
Riding cheap crappy old bikes badly since 1987

    I will second that.

There was an old fellow at the back, on an old Honda, who was afraid of getting lost.

OK!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I think we will save Little River for later in the month, perhaps as a warm up for Akaroa.

I like RQ's idea and it seems I'm not the only one. How about:-

BK, Brougham, through the tube, round the bays, Gebbies, Blue Duck (Black Tulip), Tai Tap Pub.

When the Port side of Evans Pass Road is opened we could go over Evans Pass. I suggest we call this RQ's ride!!!!!!!!

    What thinks everyone????

RQ will you please ring Tai Tap pub and let them know we are going to be there next WNR.
