Post Tucker in Alex and Petrol in Omakau

My snoops have come up with some more useful info. In the Alex holiday park there is a fast food caravan (I'm sure these use to be called pie carts) that closed just as most turned up last year. It serves up burgers, F&C etc. Is anybody interested in this such that we should ask him to stay open a little longer or is this a bit old school (can help but think of Footrot Flats movie - The Dogs Tale).

Also we are working on getting the Omakau Petrol station open for 2 hours around mid day. Will let people know more as things develop.

    Cheers R

Doh - meant to add that this is for the Sunday i.e. two day riders. One day riders are too few and will be way to spread out to make it work late on Saturday. Sorry guys.

Hmmmm maybe a bit of a dilemma here for the one dayers.
Am I right when I calculate that once we leave Alex if we don't go out of our way to Lawrence and Omakau is closed (Sat 0830-1200) it is 402km's between Alex and Omarama?
Also looks like it is 309.4km from Lawrence to Omarama

    Not quite.

Lawrence to Omakau via the Challenge (longest route - adds 10km) is 171km. The following is me checking from the roll chart. Don't include Cell 182 i.e. the non-challenge loop, cause you cant do both it and the challenge.
    • Cell 160 - 8.1
    • Cell 170 - 50.4
    • Cell 175 - 41.5
    • Cell 179 - 32.6
    • Cell 188 - 38.7
    • Total km = 171.3km

Omakau to Omarama is 105km. Again me checking.
    • Cell 194 - 38.5
    • Cell 201 - 39.0
    • Cell 207 - 28.1
    • Total km = 105.6

Lawrence to Omarama is therefore 276.9km. Allow for a bit of error in this so say you need 290km range.

    Update

Another thought occurred to me. Both petrol stations in Omarama are only open to 8pm i.e. may close a bit early for some of the one day riders. The 24hr (Eftpos and Credit Card available) fuel stop at Otematata is 25km further than Omarama. This would mean a leg of 302km from Lawrence to Otematata.

Omakau Fuel - Garage will be opened 1130 to 1330 on Sunday 23rd

Hi All. The snoops snooping has paid off. The good bugger Tony from the Omakau Garage will be opening from 1130 to 1330 on the Sunday especially for the two day riders. This is based on some rough guess of speeds and people leaving Alex at 7am. It you are a slower than average rider please leave earlier.

This means we have a couple of options.
    1. Fuel at Alex then ride to Omakau for fuel (275km) then ride to Omarama for fuel (106km).
    2. Fuel at Alex then ride to Lawrence for fuel (120km), then ride to Omakau for fuel (171km) then ride to Omarama for fuel (106km).
    3. Fuel at Alex then ride to Lawrence for fuel (120km), then ride to Omarama for fuel (277km).

Whatever you do please stop in at Omakau to make Tony's efforts worth it please i.e. option 1 or 2.

Playing with these distances and checking them is doing my head in!

    Cheers R.

    GPS Files

Ryan, when are the GPS files being posted?
Will be riding the Africa Twin if the new CDI turns up in time.
    Failing that, the Yamaha.

    Fingers crossed,
    Mark

Gidday. Just finished the GPS file now. Going to check it through, test on my GPS, then make and upload the webpage, and update the Dusty's main page tomorrow if sprog behaves. It will be up before the weekend is out if he doesn't.

Good luck with the CDI. The RD01 is a unique bike that got plenty of attention last year.

    Cheers R

P.S. It sounds like a pantyhose filter skin would have been worth your while last year. Something to think about for this one
