I know exactly what you did I did the same thing to a Chinese honda rip-off. I take it you have the tool for removing the castellated nut and some old 2c (or current 10c) coins (between the primary drive and clutch hut gears)?

Ah you got it in one , broke a stud off clutch hub that clutch spring slides on while trying to brace with a large screwdriver to tighten locking nut, doh!
Expensive and time consuming rookie error!!

One of those vise grips with the big "up & over" jaws, for holding bits together for welding etc.----Take swiveling lugs off & weld bits in to grip iner clutch plate lugs.
Can be adjusted for various size hubs.

us BRP owners are a little different, dont take it to heart dude. The XR is not exactly the best two up bike.......as much as you discounted them thr XTZ may be better if ya gotta pillion.

XR for 2 up would friggen suck nuts IMHO the DR not much better, check PhreakyPhills http://www.advrider.com/forums/showt...=617031&page=4
stock seating arrangements ain't very nice, very cramped.
would suggest as many test rides on as many different bikes as you can. The transalps a good comfy Honda for 2 up.
the XRs way more fun on yor own

your XR seemed to be ok 2 up today.....

id better start checking this thread more then every couple of days

dr650s are a popular choice - was quite a few on the dusty butt. cheap and simple with an electric start. grab a big tank and you are all set. i think they come with passenger pegs as well - xr650r s dont

If it's not one thing it's the next!

Yesterday spent almost two hours trying to fit new cam chain over cam sprocket and on to cam but after several attempts and one tainty gave up in disgust.
This morning after trying every possible remedy realised that Hamptons had given me the wrong length cam chain...118 links instead of 122 links. Interestingly the packaging had the right part number on it. The XR600 had a 118 link so that's where they may have stuffed up, just another wee trick to look out for
