I had one in mine but I took it out as i noticed oil sitting on the top of itTherefore I decided that oil was getting out past it to a point, but could not get back in. Presumably any oil that goes up the breather should get sucked back down as well.
Anyway since I removed it there has been no sign of oil in the breather, and I even put a smaller diameter tee in the breather that vented to atmosphere to check whether any oil actually was going up the breather. Even after the dusty butt and the bike using 8 litres of oil the breather is oil free. (there is obviously another issue)
The other issue with the pcv valve is that the seals can pucker in and out with each cycle because the pressure inside the crankcase is not as equalized than with a free breathing setup.
I mentioned vegetables once, but I think I got away with it...........
The standard KLR (only familiar with on '08 but doubt if things are too different in other years) is not a "free-breathing setup". The small size of the breather hole into the airbox is probably (should have tested this with an air pressure guage before modifying) going to result in a positive crankcase air pressure at anything above idle.
Old brit singles used to have a big bore (1/2" or bigger) breather hose vented straight to the atmosphere otherwise they would pressurise the crankcase and leak like a sieve. Slightly more modern designs (eg KLR) don't leak becuase of better seals and gaskets so the pressure goes either up past the rings or down the valve guides and takes a bit of oil with it.
Will try and get hold of a sensitive pressure guage and try a few tests.
it's not a bad thing till you throw a KLR into the mix.
those cheap ass bitches can do anything with ductape.

I thought you would be interested in this site, it has a comparison of the KLR to the F800GS

$3000 worth of extras to begin with? I couldn't believe any thing after reading that... (apart from the seat comparison) I think it was just written to make cause a bit of friction between those that can afford an expensive advbike & those that either can't afford or choose not to spend a lot of money. End of the day both are gonna get you there in style & smoothly.

According to TopGear, Albanian Rozzers ride 640 Adv's.
