Raglan is our destination. I have some romantic teenaged perspective on the place. First time I nearly drowned in surf I got rescued The yummy guard did not give me mouth to mouth Only time I have attempted to stand on a board, I can still feel the lump where the fucker got me

Imagine my total surprise, finding the seething holiday weekend mess Raglan turns out to be

To improve things we have booked in at the Pub where there is a live band playing

Had a lovely meal there, went for walks, watched the sun set Turned in at bed time and waited for the rest of Raglan to catch up with us. Early closing Easter and all that. Mid night apparently!

Have you any idea how long it takes to close up a pub? Forever whould be my spin. Emptying the club across the road takes longer. At last we get quiet, and then we get the staff, preparing the hotel guest accomodation for the night. Just as you think all is good, they start opening up

    What can I say

Brekky this morning and the cafe opposite the hotel looks the go. Finishing our coffees and this bloke comes in and parks outside. He is wearing Q-moto gear and most likely will be a KB'r. We leave and take a look at his very lovely bike and Maha calls him out. Yes, it IS Slowfox Wag the chin a bit and he has to head home to pack boxes!

We head back to the hotel and pack ourselves and head home.

Tootle up the main drag, we turned off and did the Waingaru Springs way, would have been really cool bar the road works Mile after mile of unswept, loose chip, new seal was not appreciated by this gal. I had thought of the Kaiaua Coast and SH16/Woodcocks Road home route, but after doing that crap, was very pleased to be doing the boring way.

Got home and unloaded. Went out, got some fresh milk etc, came home and had a nana nap

As for the hotel in your pictures, well, dont shoot the messanger but if you look at it quickly it resembles an iconic English holiday destination. Have a look for yourself.....
    Flowery Twats?...
Great old Hotel at Waitomo, didn't see any spooks but one or two local soused twats was a good enough substitue.

Bit of a feck up there really, I had the directions all locked and loaded before we left Raglan. I wanted to go through Waingaro/Rotowaro/Glen Murray rd to Rangiriri (Glen Murray rd) but end up in Ngaruawahia shaking my head as to where I went wrong...it was only then that I stopped to look at the map...

And the near off in the drain bit?...I was a 100mts up the road watching it all unfold in my mirrors thinking, where the hell are you going? we dont need any water cress au? then the head light pointed in the rigth direction just in the nick of time one might say......Marty and the bride stood guard the following day, acted as a human barrier...

    Found where I went wrong...
Ohautira rd (17.4km) turn right onto Waingaro rd for 7.7km then turn LEFT onto Rotowaro rd, dont go straight which takes you to Glen Massey, should have gone through Glen Afton on Glen Murray rd....too many bloody Glens going on....

But look what I found in Piopio....

Hey, what a great time we had with the Warkworthians.

It was a time of many nearlys. We nearly saw the Mountain, we nearly saw a starlit sky, we nearly saw the Pukekos play at sunset, I nearly blagged a new jacket off Maha, Mark nearly kept his undies under control and Mom nearly saw the inside of a hedge on a motorbike

I thoroughly enjoyed the 'around the cloud ride', formerly the 'around the mountain ride', bugger all Traffic except for one rather large wayward bus and no road works...result.

All in all a bit of a no show Taranaki trip, couldn't even buy alcohol!!! crazy laws but hugely enjoyable meeting Mom and Maha for the first time, both top blokes and I can't wait till you come back to see beautiful Taranaki in it's full glory.

In the mean time check out the pics you should have taken back. The mountain framed by lake and bridge , The Chinese Wing Wong and some pukekos.

Miss ya already, come back soon x x x x

It really is. Every now and then theres a little nugget of biking greatness then back onto the sweepers. I had no problem with doing the return trip on Sunday. Will definately get back soonish and have another play around in the King Country/Naki.

And isn't that the best reason to do it?
You don't get to be an old dog without learning a few tricks.
