Don't you just love it when the mother in law comes for the weekend?

It seems every dark cloud has a silver, er, no, actually a gold lining.
The dear mother in law in coming to stay for 4 days this weekend, and to say it mildly, we barely tolerate each other at the best of times
Why is it like this with bleedin' in-laws? Mine is as mad as a snake, so not unlike the forementioned reptile, I try to keep my distance for fear of being bitten.

Anyhoo, this possible misfortune could have been potentially worsened by hours of her sitting on my favourite sofa in front of my tv watching the bloody royal wedding, uuuuurgh, shudder.

So I put forward my insanity plea to the domestic judge, jury and executioner, and she grants me 3 days on parole, complete with ankle bracklet (cellphone), on best behaviour of course. Certainly a much preferrable option than the original sentence in custody with hostile inmates.

Yeee- feckin-ha, I'm off for the weekend, busting the joint with Topo and heading south to the border towns and beyond.

    RR follows next week..........

My leave pass has small print that says something about "only as far as the garden" for some reason.

    Busy tomorrow
MrsJ wants some chowder from the slip-inn on Sunday, so.....
Might take Piglet and make an asault on the hill outside Havelock (while MrsJ watches with bino's and a latte) and if time permits... head back to Rarangi and have a shufti at the 4wd track

Speaking of tyres. That fricking rear knobbly you lent me is possessed I tell ya. Remember how many tubes we (sic) went thru at the xc? wellI found it flat yesterday so took the tube out & repairde the snakebite. put it in two more times as it got pinched each fricking time. Going to the bike shop this morning with big tyre machine

It's been on and off my bike several times, no probs. I always powder the tube though, so it can move within the tyre more freely.
    Cheers,
    Colin

Just saw Padmei heading out the Wairoa Gorge direction.

What time is the Havlock thang going down?
I can get away for the afternoon but not enough time for the Loop Track for me though...

Ummm sorry warewolf but I stuffed your scorpion riding home fromtown yesterday flat The man with the big tyre machine said itwas stuffed & whenI looked inside the carcass strands were delaminating. I'll arrange some kind of payment or swapsie for it. I got a fresh new high quality kiwimx rear for the next xc or trailride & in the meantime use one of froggies old ones.
Warwick turned up on his very fricking fast looking BMWrss thing to get the mighty YZ off Lester for the VMX on tomorrow. Should be a good day of noise & arithic rattling bones. I think even Lester was making noise about getting his badass on a bike.It always amazes me what he's making for the race bikes. I doubt there would be many guys around with his diverse skills. Luckily he doesn't mind me looking over his shoulder.

I went for a pleasant blat along Wairoa gorge this avo. Very nice. I came across a track that looked suspiciously like it would be a dead end with gorse so of course went down it & got prickled.
Unfortunately there are a lot of lockedgates around now

No payment required, it was a gift.
    Cheers,

Today's trip started out with potential...

    Off through the Maungatapu again...
    Mmm... New bridge...

The destination for the day was the Havlock Pylon Track...
From about sea level to about 300m ASL...

    Started well...

    Right then...

    60m ASL and we're off!

    About 60 secs later...
Past the first rise and onto the second...

    140m ASL and we're stuck!

    Quite steep and damp...
    15 mins later and success!
    I was 5m further up!
30 sec later and I was 2m further! Down, unfortunately...

Sod this, I'm off to the secret entrance. Off the lookout corner.

300m ASL is more like it.

And if I trickle down the track, I get to within 60m of the steep, slippery bit, right in the middle there.

Where I turned around and continued my upward journey as if nothing had happened...

Thought 'd have a go at the east track off the summit.
But 50m later and I'm 2 wheel drifting to (hopefully) a halt in the wet grass before I hit the slip...

I could see a second one less than 100m away so my mind turned to the possibility of having to push back up the blardy 50m I'd just came...

The TT must be sykick or just scared as it trundled back no problem at all.

Stopped for a Magnum at Havlock and just as my chocolate reserves are replenished, I see a pair of DR350's cruise by...

Time to deploy the Team America wave!

    Mrs Jatz saw me.

Off through the Maungatapu to home(s)...

I had a play at the summit and gained quite a bit of confidence. Road up and down the bank!
Shit it was freaky the first time!

Sooo freaky it freaked out Jatz and he wouldn't have a go.
I tried to tell him that there was nothing to it and there'd only be 2 cameras recording it for posterity but he wasn't having any of it. The wimp.

Mrs Jatz would have done it but she came off earlier and hurt her ankle. Quite funny to see her riding with a splint made of maunka sticks and bungys

I took them on a couple of easy side tracks. Nothing bad as Jatz and I were on road tyres

Oh and the car was gorn when we got back!
    Spooky
