I know it's not a rideout but.........
Fuck me !!!! it's snowing at my houseAnd I just came through town and it's coming down there too, was getting thick on the Moutere saddle too.
Also the powers out, just aswell I have a shitty dialup connection and a laptop![]()
Back from trip on MTB through the Heaphy track, I have to say it was pretty damn fantastic, no idea how the through riders do it in one day...
We went Nelson -> Karamea IMO definitely the better/easier route, bulk of the climbing knocked off on first day, steady Dun Mountain railway type climb up to Perry Saddle hut.
I almost wore through a front set of pads (discs), but the guy in our group with V Brakes shot his front and rear pads once.
Swing bridges were a killer, I'd just do the crossings next time (water below knees on every one).
I used panniers, decent Blackburn ones...great for balance etc. but basically ripped to pieces by the constant vibrations - my only mechanical issue was repairing them with cable ties.
Spare derailleur hanger definitely a winner, we carried a universal one...it did the trick but wasn't fully operational and is only a temporary fix.
Not a single flat amongst our group but some amazing grinding paste made from sand/chain oil/mud...I'm yet to inspect the damage closelyat very least I'm up for a new chain.
Icing on the cake was the flight out with Golden Bay Air $200 each, took two flights to get 4 bikes and 4 guys back to Takaka in the little Piper pa-28, they relocated the van from Brown hut carpark too.
Wicked trip!
Bloody hell, and I thought motorsikles wore out fast.
I mentioned vegetables once, but I think I got away with it...........
So where to tomorrow?
Nice fine winters day...
we're taking the roadies down the mot valley... that's kinda like dirt riding in more than a few places![]()
we'll offer moral support from the pub
Went for a cruise over to Pelorus and back.
Steak & kidney pie and flat white.
Mmmmm...
