    Talking Greetings People of Wellington

I'm going to be working in Lower Hutt during the last three weeks of September, and I'm allowed to bring my two-wheeled "research assistant" in the back of the work van

Clint will probably come down the weekend of the 17th/18th, and we're keen to do some exploring locally, so would appreciate a few tour guides for the weekend.

I have to do tiny amounts of work each day on the following weekend, but could be keen for a day trip or two.

During the week my hours will be a bit variable, but if anyone wanted to catch up for a beer (or check out the local climbing wall ) I could be keen.

    More details to come...
The road to hell is paved...

I would have been keen for this snow sortie, but my bike is out of action because the forks are getting a birthday (revalved) I haven't been in snow since the Waiouru Army trip you organised last year.

Travelling out of town to watch wood dry never looked so good

Actually, I was pretty disappointed that none of our snow settled yesterday
And now it's fine and sunny, so I don't think we'll be getting any more

My brake seals are not here yet... looking less likely for tomorrow evening's excursion Still snowing in Upper Hutt right now, just came in from a snow fight with my older boy. I wore one in the left ear...punk.
There are two kinds of adventurers: those who go truly hoping to find adventure and those who go secretly hoping they won't. We should come home from our adventures having faced their perils and uncertainties, endured their discomfort and beaten the odds, with a sly acknowledgment and revitalised solidarity of character.

Mate, I missed the boat, my caliper seals only arrived at the shop today so the're back on the bike now and need to be reprimed tomorrow...

I think I'll be lucky to get across the streams up there with all the melt. Will have a look tomorrow afternoon and will post if it was eventful but I expect its now jsut going to be clay, fallen trees and arse-offs...oh and the mudbog of doom at the top of the Pram Track.

    New Sport: Adventure Sawing

Well, finished some Uni work off, filled the refurbed front brakes and packed a few things onto the bike and into the bag...

I was hoping I might get through to Hydro Saddle, but it very quickly became apparent that wasn't going to happen...

I packed my mid sized Husky on the bike with its fill of gas and bar oil, chucked a folding shovel into the backpack and off I went. There was heaps of branches and bushes over the track which made is slow going and then the rear end kicked around on me crossing a small tree on the track. Skull-dragged the bike sideways out of that one, and kept going. Down thru the first stream crossing was fine but things really started to get crowded on the track after that. Pushed through for another couple hundred metres but then had to rip the husky into life to get through a rock/tree slide...and another one...and another one.

Basically I burnt a tank of gas over four clearance jobs...giving me a paltry 2-300m distance gained. Total trip: ~25km return over a couple of hours (hard hours!). Didn't expect to find it in such a bad way, so next time I'll take more gas and allow more time.

Can't win all the time eh?
