"While riding two abreast is legal, cyclists need to show courtesy to other road users. This means riding in single file on busy roads.

"Our advice for drivers is to show similar courtesy.

"Wait until it is safe to pass, and give cyclists plenty of room."
Since when did the cyclist decide its legal to ride to abreast

I get the bastards all parking there cars outside my place in Middle road, Havelock North and starting there "Cycle race" from here. Had one tosser park his car across my driveway and not want to move it because the cycle race was about to start. he moved it just enough to not block the drive.
I mowed the council lawns/Shingle right next to his car with the mower on low

They just put a sign up and take over the road and act like its a closed road

I try to have a drive in my work ute and see if any are cutting the corners (there is lots of them) Cyclist vs Hilux, wonder who would win

The power of advertising eh? Food for thought for future safety campaigns but I guess if something is shown enough we become immune to it's message.
Who pays attention to ads on TV?
Do you realise how many holes there could be if people would just take the time to take the dirt out of them?

Anyone find it ironic that there is a rule for cyclist.......but not for every other thing on the road.
    - Distance to pass a school bus, motorcycle, car, pedestrian, horse, cow.......

But oh no, you must keep 1.5m distance between you and a bloody tightly wrapped meat pack on pedals.

Riding bikes with pedals is just dumb....most of them are middle aged men going through a mid life body shape crisis, big fat belly's squeezed into some lycra with the stitching strained to the max...I reckon if one of those elastic bands let go it would take someones head off...!!!

If he can be failed for not knowing this, then all the old people driving about should have their licenses revoked... they haven't a hope of judging that distance when they can't even work out what it is they're approaching till they're on top of it. They'll be going up in the stats over the next few years for sure.

Even if you are a motorcyclist only, cyclists still cause us problems!
They can still make it awkward to pass if they are 2-3 abreast on a busy road.
They often don't look or stop at intersections when they are turning left, gives you the shits sometimes!
Oncoming cyclists often have cars overtaking them, happily encroaching on our side of the road, with no care for oncoming traffic, granted this is a cage driver problem, but it wouldn't be there if the cyclists stayed hard left or didn't wonder in their lane.
Plus on a side note, they should wear identifying marks so that we know if its a guy or a girl, its very embarassing checking out someone who ends up being a dude

Don't get me started on people who don't know the simple give way rules Give way if you are turning right to the people on your right who are also turning right!

YEAH .. there's signs all over the place saying 1.5 metres. BIG SIGNS. I'm concerned I share the road with riders who are so unobservant they've missed the signs ....

What else don't you see on the road ????

We've had that for 40some years. It's going to change soon...

Yeah I don't like that it's going to change. As it follows the very basic rule of "give way to your right".

Also, if you have to be 1.5m away from the cyclist. Does that apply to other cyclists too? As they are also vehicles in the laws eyes.
Technically when cyclists are riding two abreast, there should be a 1.5m gap for us to zoom between!

(Sidenote: Cyclists that go through red lights piss me off)

If I saw advertising on t.v I would change the channel, any man in lycra tights talking on t.v usually makes me change the channel.
Urban cyclists I don't mind as I don't live in Auckland, but rural cyclists anger me.
I hate them with a passion! especially when I'm driving my truck.
If they don't do the right thing and move over or stop when I go past they get a big black cloud of smoke from me side exhaust.

Message to road users "1.5m to pass"
Message to cyclists "STAY OUTA MY FUCKEN WAY!!"
