Don't know about Kawa's but on Hondas the thermoswitch is generally on the negative side of the circuit, so if you pull the lead off and touch it to the frame the fan should come on.
Yeah I tested that. When I do that I can hear the little click that indicates the fan should be running and the fan will run if I give it a spin with my finger but won't stay spinning.

Someone suggested that I get some sewing machine oil onto it and see if that will help the thing. I haven't tried that yet but it's on my list of things to do.

Woo hoo, Lees Valley.... the river in the middle climbed from about 4 cubic meters / second flow rate to 200 today.
I don't suppose anyone went and got a photo?
No I wasn't there, I'm sitting in a rather leaky factory dreaming.

Don't say that. I'm still hoping to climb Tapuae-O-Uenuku in the Kaikouras this weekend, which is supposed to involve around 80 crossings of the Hodder River. Fingers crossed it hasn't leapt up like the Okuku.

....saw a bloke on a GS550, I think it was, it was just about submerged riding up the middle of SH75 this arvo...the road had been closed a while, due to being under about 600mm of water...there were rapids on our intersection with it, no shit...wheelie bins and firewood and rims and tyres scooting the other way at a fair clip....i was very impressed with his wish to get home..

Assuming your talking Lees valley, I'm not surprised, it was still over 8 cubic meters / second then, just dripped to 6 today and that still be a bit risky for my liking.

Anyone feel like a early/mid week ride?

I'm especially talking to the uni students on holiday. Stuffs a little slow right now and I've got an untested, uber modified F650 dakar thats hanging out to be flogged.
