After my frolicking around on the slopes in Canada for 5 months, I've been driving my old man's Peugeout 406 Hdi around the city and beyond since I got back in April. Beautiful car, great manual to drive with some decent turbo diesel grunt - not to mention the thing went a good 1,200km on a tank, getting 4.9L per 100km! Now the weather has been getting better and better, and I've been awfully jealous of every bike I've seen on the road or parked up, salivating from the seat of my tractor car... That was until the car died. The clutch fully shagged itself and we're selling it as is.


What do I do?!?!

Same deal mate. The wifes little MR2 is just on 200,000kms, and it's getting pretty tired. She has loved that, and I'd probably just get her another if I could find it, but low mileage unmolested ones are hard to come by it would seem

. Failing that, it's a matter of picking something, but like you I find them all pretty uninspiring. She has a bee in her bonnet about a blue XR6, so might just lease one of those for a few years, and save up for something else (would love an NSX). Given you have no particular love for cars, have you considered leasing?

There are only two other sports cars I'd want and they are, of course! the NSX and also the S2000. Unfortunately you can't get either of them for the $5400 I paid for the MX5...

Dollar for dollar the MX5 has to be the best sports car you can buy, bar none! Ours has done 187k, I did the cambelt and water pump at 180k and all that is wrong now is a minor oil leak that I haven't bothered to get fixed yet. I'll take it out to Tim's, (Classic_Z), before Summer and get it up to scratch.

Friend had one. No torque at all. 5th gear on the motorway at 100 km/hr with foot to the floor, would accellerate at a glacial pace. Was fine if you revved the tits off it, but he would regularly see 250 km out of a full tank. Paying $140 odd to full it got old pretty quickly.
In saying that, I did like the car.


Oh, and anyone who wouldnt want an NSX needs their head examined.

I guess ours isn't really a sports car, given that it's front drive an has 4ish seats, but I figured $2k for a eurojunk ragtop with 83k's on it was worth a giggle.

Was trying to motivate myself out of bed and heard on the radio the Team Hutchison Ford advert.... apparently you can lease a new XR6 for $653 a month or something similar. I'd never considered that, might be worth a look... saves me getting stuck with the shitter later; I assume once she has driven it for a while she'll see why I'm lukewarm on the idea of one.

Car-wise...these can punch above their weight and are cheap to buy and run.We grew up thrashing these sorts of things around...semi-bulletproof.

Still considering it... Car is probably worth like 4k or so when running... if the flywheel is shagged then it's over 2k just for the part, nevermind the clutch kit + hours of labour.

Problem is we won't know exactly what's wrong until the whole gearbox is taken out, and once you've gone that far...

Just replace the clutch, seriously.

New car could go poof at any stage, at least you know where you're at with the pug.
