There is nothing unusually different about that piece of road, compared to every other piece of road that is not designated as a motorway.

The riders failed all by themselves.

Firstly, I was not there at the accident at all. I am not posting this to receive a whole lot of abuse or fame, just the facts.

It is human nature when you fuck up, you either learn and take the blame or blame someone else!
Just all remember that we don't go out on the road to have an accident, but we can take measures that can tip the balance in our favour. I have been riding NZ roads for over 40 years, and have come across some pretty shocking roads. When you ride it is dangerours, I as much as anyone know this from a serious bike accident which I can still feel after 30 years.

All you guys out there, remember this,

"If I arse up and come off, I was the one who put the bike there in the first place". I have also come off in conditions like this, It was my fault for not riding to the conditions and no one else to blame.

I feel for the riders that have come off, it is not nice to see another brother hurt, on his pride and joy smashed up.

Please everyone, stop this shit from happening again, and learn from it, and be man enough to not lay any blame.

13,000km in 8 months sounds pretty average - 19,500 k's per year aint much. I do that weekend riding plus about 60,000km a year in the work ute. It's a miracle I'm still alive with those miles, considering the state of our roads.

Whether it's cost cutting or poor workmanship I don't know, but the chip seal fails and the underlying tar bleeds to the top. When it gets wet it becomes treacherously-black ice-slippery. It holds surface water and can easily bring a novice or even an experienced rider undone. Particularly in situations with decreased visibility. I have seen it happen to old hands as well.

You would be better served by expressing your outrage at the death traps on the roadways than getting on the case of the poor schmucks it's brought undone.

& as for k's I only managed 47k in 8 months so that only makes me a weekend warrior compared to say - gijoe or gremlin so instead of run'n off at the mouth sonny onya
