Brothers? I got brothers? Why did someone not tell me this before? I thought I only had a sister.....obviously me Mum was a little bit naughty when my Dad wasn't looking....
Sorry mate, we're not automatically "brothers" because we share a mode of transport, it takes a little more than that. In my experience "we" are about as diverse a group of people as you would ever meet.
"Twilight's like soccer. They run around for two hours, nobody scores, and a billion fans insist you just don't understand"
hold on, were they really going to fast for the conditions because they crashed? How fast would be appropriate considering the conditions changed after a corner? What does the rider handling of the bike have to do with it? I know I've ridden too fast for the conditions and not crashed before....
I also know I've ridden well within what would be considered "safe for the conditions" and had near accidents when the conditions abruptly change faster than my speed can (gravel, mud, livestock, retards doing U turns). Shit I've come off on tar bleed before despite crawling over it at 40kph with utmost care. I've also come off due to lack of attention/fatigue, and that was doing 70 where I could have reasonably been doing 100 (or more).
Can we please stop blaming speed? The govt. loves it as it's enforcable and distracts us from the true issue of driver ability/training and in some cases poor roading. Roading in NZ is a problem and is very often a major contributing factor to accidents. This isn't just tar bleed, but also design of camber and roadside furniture, misleading or lacking signage, poorly designed intersections and other issues that catch us out.
The only statement about speeding from the govt. that is true is the old mantra, "the faster you go the bigger the mess". To address driver training (ie resit the test every 5 years, learners being taught how to drive unaided in emergency situations etc) is something they just refuse to do, instead opting for popular votes with kneejerk policies (change 250cc system, raise age to 16, crush cars/"boy racer act"). TO admit that road conditions, especially after being notified of the issues, cause injuries and deaths is something they would simply rather not do.
I'm glad to see this year they have announced that driving slowly and failing to let others pass is akin to careless driving.
(and yes, I do know of a particular road in abysmal condition where after a driver was killed they blamed speed and then proceeded with a massive upgrade of the road.)
When I was riding around the south island I absolutely loved the chipseal made with what appears to be metal from the alps - all full of light quartz - it didn't seem to melt, had good traction, and was very visible at night; it nearly glowed!
Ask yourself ... if they do(did)that ride again ...same people, same bikes ... when they get to that SAME piece of road.... will they slow down, go faster, or will they travel at the same speed as they did in the video ... ???
My bet is they will SLOW DOWN. And I'd bet ... the gap between bikes would be greater too ...

Oh FFS!!!! (12 year old daughters abbreviation)
A group of guys went for a ride, on cruisers. There were no fucking egos, otherwise they wouldn't have been on cruisers. There was a crash, during which, a number of motorcyclists were injured. Some helicoptered to hospital.
Regardless of whether YOU riding gods would have fallen or not is irrelevant. The fact is, people did. They're hurt. Their pillions are hurt. Their bikes are fucked.
Now, they're probably ALL going over in their own minds what they could have done differently. But to have 10 pages of who they considered to be their mates rarking them up calling them n00bs is no doubt, not helping them recover.
Point 1) The riders involved are hopefully recovering and teaching themselves what they could have done differently.
Point 2) Every SINGLE one of you critiques have made at least ONE mistake in the past, probably more. You're just extremely fortunate there were no video cameras around at the time.
These guys may or may not have fucked up. I don't care. They're injured. Their bikes are fucked. Their peers are calling them n00bs for crashing. They deserve a break.
Merry Christmas guys, shit'll get better in the New Year, I look very forward to catching up on the road some time. Peace!
