Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends. (John 15:13)
Well seeing as how there's a couple of pages of posts with no pics (and that's not the point of the thread) I thought it was time I tried out the hip to see how it would handle a gentle ride, and it was another stunning day in paradise....So obviously I went riding
Sorry for the pic quality, there was a finger print on the lense I didn't see till I got home
After doing 60% of the housework and feeling like a brew I decided to go out for one. Why not, the sun was shining the birds were singing and I woke feeling remarkably spritely
I knew just the place...
It was such a nice day and the mp3 was playing some good tunes even the other traffic didn't upset me going over Takaka hill
Just tuck in behind and wait for a sensible passing spot
Down the other side and hang a left at the hall, then make my way towards the Cobb power station. It's quite a narrow little road where you wouldn't want to get things wrong
I carried on past the power station to see how a little bit of gravel would feel under the wheelsA couple of k's up the road I was waved down by a guy who told me he'd put his truck over the bank a bit, and could I give him a lift back to the power station. "No worries cobber, but I broke a footpeg when I dicked off a couple of weeks ago" says I, unfazed he hopped on and we rode back to the station...slowly
After dropping him off to use the phone there I carried on back up the gravel, came round a corner and saw his truck
Full of gravel too
Carrying on I came to where they'd been laying fresh gravel on the road, have I told you how much I hate trailwings in gravelMade for a fairly slow trip to the top of the ridge
By this stage I's ready for that coffee
Cafe Back Pack...
Note MrsJ's yummy fruit loaf and the feijoa, keeping healthy
It's not a bad veiw from the top either, so good I ordered another brew :
Sufficiently refreshed I went for a quick spin down the airstrip
And back
Then headed for home and 40% more housework. On the way out I stopped to yak to the truck driver who was busy with a shovel unloading his truckHe warned me there was a loader on it's way in to pull him out. I said goodbye and carried on, being careful and riding defensively (slowly)
.Met the loader as I was going round a left hand bend almost riding in the ditch, I was confronted by a bucket the size of our dining room table on my side of the road
the driver smiled down at me, I grinned at him (and thought about changing dacks) and we carried on.
Just the ride back out to the main rd and back over the hill left, nothing exciting happened so here's a couple of scenic shots
Got home, and the boy had tidied up the domestic stuff too![]()
And there was a wee parcel from ProCycle waiting for me
Check out those stickersand some other stuff..
Not a bad first ride, although I was braking for corners on the hill where I normaly wouldn't and feeling a little nervous at times when going in towards the Cobb, I think I left my mojo in the Molesworthmight have to work on getting it back.
Stay tuned for the next exciting installment as I go MOJO hunting![]()
Good to see you back on the horse.

I mentioned vegetables once, but I think I got away with it...........

Strictly speaking I shouldn't really be riding. But I have been feeling pretty good and I think things are healing up well. Walking without sticks and riding the pushy a few k's a day, also taking supplements from O2B has probably made a difference
I think the 120 k's today was far enough though![]()
Wish they'd sell those footpeg mounts without footpegs...
mmmmmmmmmmm coffee smelt good from heregood to cya out & about

Seeing as how I had a bit of spare time and some goodies had turned up for the 650, I figured it'd be rude not to put them in/on the bike yesterday.
Starting with lowered footpegs...
Gather the tools for the job
Quite a difference in height
and length
I didn't shorten the brake rod, but there's no more adjustment so it'll have to doand the lever is level with the footpeg. I wonder how they'll feel without the rubber dampers
Next was the heavier weight spring...
After a quick phone call to Nordieto find out the easiest way of getting the shock out I set about removing the shock.
Here it is
Ooooo look, a hole
Take a measurement to give me something to aim for when putting it all back together
It looked to me like the large flat washer and collar were one pieceso I whipped the end off the shaft
won't make that mistake again
could've saved my self a bit of work there.
After a quick trip to town to replenish locktite supplies and a stop at the bike shop for a chinwag, and to pick up some fork oil, picked up a cheeep tyre tooI came home and put it all back together
Here tiz... shiny aye
The airbox was easy to get back in compared to the Big, single carbs make life easier
And here it is ready to goafter I take the bike lift away
Next up is some spacers for the front forks
and some 20w fork oil
Anybody got a syringe for measuring the oil level or a sure fire way of getting it right without being too technical, I'm a fairly low tech kinda guy (see the hammer in the pic above)

geez thats a serious spacer, good luck getting the fork caps back in with that.
I taped a longish bit of rubber hose to a long screwdriver, marked 165mm on the hose then lowered it down the fork to the mark. Once in place I sucked on the other end to see if any fluid came out.
Obviously I had enough hose to ensure any oil that did come out didn't end up being swallowed.
