There are a couple of road knights living out that way, maybe that is the gang you heard about. You can get some cheap houses in Nightcaps or Ohai, but there is nothing there. You could possibly find work If you drive machinery or trucks, or a wee bit of farm work. I thought about going out that way,but the missus hates it. We bought a place in Gore that was fairly cheap I thought, cheaper than coramandel anyway, thats where we were going to go from auckland, to many people there for me now though. We got a large 4 bedroom house, garage and large section for $132k.If the weather was warmer, it would be the perfect place to live.

Decent place and people, superb fishing and recreational activities with some nice towns not too far away. Whitianga would be rather pleasant. Also, the weather is better than oop norf.
Well said Swoop. I did just that after a lifetime of 60 hour weeks. Except I live on the edge of Coromandel harbour as the fishing is better there and there's more to do.

If the weather was better houses would cost more....

It depends what your values are, how open you are to new people and what you want out of life really. We moved from ChCh years ago (best thing we ever did) to sunny Raumati South on the Kapiti Coast. It’s a simple (but lengthy) commute to Wellington but it’s a wonderful community. Wellingtons not like ChCh or Auckland, its more like a collection of villages. Depending on your budget you can find any sort of life you need.

If you have the coin, the bays are nice but I still like Kapiti. Having said that we have had friends move here from ChCh and never settled.... Its not like ChCh - deal with it...

If the weather was warmer it would have been $432k.

I like my little plot in the thriving metropolis of 2km from nowhere.
I have uncountable brilliant roads, weather could be worse, no neighbours, only house on the road, 1 local-ish police officer-lady-thing, no need to deal with crowds or idiots (good for a muppet with bad anxiety like myself)

Did I mention the roads? Traffic free, twisty, challenging, perfection.
    I love this place.

Not Kapiti - don't want it getting crowded here.

If that's just been renovated, I'd hate to see how it looked before

I've just moved back into townish after getting redzoned out of northeast chch, makes a huge difference to the psyche not driving over fucked roads past broken and empty houses. I guess it helps that work hasn't changed and the up side is I don't have to commute in traffic to get there any more, 5 minutes on the pushbike works for me.
Riding cheap crappy old bikes badly since 1987
