Definately keen to get to a carpark for some serious practice before spending too much time on the road, I have a healthy respect for my level of experience...
Took a look at your helmet but I'm about a 58cm, (lots of brains ) thats as long as bike helmets and horse helmets are measured the same way...
Going into Hamilton tomorrow to take a look at the bike shops to see what they have in the way of both bikes and gear. Where are the best places to look?
They probably are measured the same. I think 58cm is bigger than my head!!! At least when you go try on helmets tomorrow you'll know if there's no chance Not trying to push a sale (well kinda ) but it would be a perfect first helmet since it's top notch with all the other stuff that's a bonus - for the price of a budget helmet.

After my mishap, I don't scimp on a lid. It's by far the most expensive bit of my kit. But like you've pointed out, you already know that so you've got more clue than most other riders.

Take a look at both their websites.

Also if you are buying several items ask for a discount
Agree with Boyds. You can shop around but you'll probably either buy from Boyds or Hamilton Honda. Boyds sell a lot of product so the distributors give them some good deals. Hamilton Motorcycles (across the road from boyds) have some good kit on sale, well did have. That's of course if you like promoting the bestest bike brand

Another option maybe Waikato Yamaha, down the other end of Te Rapa Straight. Haven't been there in years but could surprise you.

I bought a backpack from them near a year ago and it was a closing down sale. Pretty sure they are done and dusted now??

You have Road and Sport, Boyds, and another bike shop about 350 paces further North (Cant remember their name) Hamilton Motorcycles and another Harley shop (HD Motorbikes) are just across the road (5 within 10 minutes walk) and then theres Honda Hamilton in Anglesea street I think. All good shops and all have something a bit different!

That's right. Forgot about that. They had big problems with people not finding them. They were in a stupid place tucked away in a corner.

Well I am now fully kitted out thanks to Boyd's
Got some awesome riding pants that have a thermal liner and a waterproof liner that can be removed. They are still really comfortable and have extra protection in the knees and hips. Should be good for year round riding. I also have a jacket, helmet, gloves and some relly nice boots. And the guy that sorted me out did me a good deal because I got everything from him

All I need now is a bike...

Now theres a relatively cheaper and safer idea... lol

Yeah, I had a look at the shops I went to but going back tomorrow to look at the honda shop and the scooter bar, they have couple bikes on TM I'm interested in having a sit oncand I ran out of time to stop in today. Sat on a couple of more upright sports bikes which has changed my mind on that style of bike, they are much more comfortable than I thought they would be.

So now I have broadened my horizons to include both cruisers and the upright sports bikes. Thinking of going 400cc or above though, that way I'm less likely to want to upgrade soon

If you have ridden before and have some experience, I would really consider a 600cc. Look at a LAMS approved model. That way you wont think in a year or so the engine is too small.

I don't have too much knowledge on the Hyosung bikes but the GT650 seems like a nice learner/beginner bike which could potentially last you a while as far as engine size goes.

On the other hand, if your not worried about engine size then anything over 250cc will provide you with some great fun.

Try out the ninja 300 that seems to be getting positive reviews. I took one for a ride and liked it enough to buy one even after owning a 650 for a year or so.
However beautiful the strategy, you should occasionally look at the results.

Now there is a great idea. I also had a look at that bike. Very good looking and well priced.
