Tricky thing deciding what to do with the Beemer. Its hardly been ridden since I got the DR. The DR is better off road than the DR and ok on the road. The Beemer is a bit smoother on road being a twin and shaft drive. Ive had the Beemer so long that it feels like i want to do something dramatic to it to give "it a new lease" of life, or maybe just sell it ?

I agree, hence the thoughts on a radical mod to get it to do what I would like to do on it, without spending an absolute fortune. Most of our NZ riding is 60% tar 35% gravel and 5% offroad, its eay to get a bike to do the first two well but not so easy to do all three well. Then throw on a pillion to complicate things. I had a hankering to try a 950 Super Enduro, but maybe to much motor.

I can agree with those points Phil. These days you don't have to go far to find any modern bike that will outdo the GS in most areas except simplicity.
They are a great platform to do conversions & modifications tho as you know.

Yea, I look at that blue and white one and see an Airhead Super Enduro. !
I couldn't believe how much Andrew had to undo on his KTM 990 to access the air filter (on the TAT)

I got mine down to 10 minutes on the 950. Those big KTM's are pretty top heavy in the rougher stuff and very tall.

especially when you a bit short in the leg

took a mates 990 for a spin & stopped at lights in town put foot down only to find
there was nothing there.....

BMW Motorrad is offering ABRs the chance to take the all-new 2013 R 1200 GS on a round-the-world, all expenses paid, overland expedition. Five riders will be selected by a panel of experts to ride a leg through one of five continents on the “One World. One R 1200 GS” tour.

A jury of international VIPs and motorcycle adventurers will select the five riders from around the world, based on their motorcycling experience, ambitions, attitude and, above all, their passion for two-wheeled adventure. The five appointed ambassadors will be among the first people to ride the highly-anticipated next generation GS ahead of its international launch in March 2013.
The tour will travel through New Zealand, Asia, South Africa, America and Europe between December and March 2013, the competition is open to all riders over 21 years old. Please excuse me for interrupting but it occurred to me that I should at least let you guys know that my bike is for sale. Sad, a shame, regrets I've had a few..but someone else should cherish and enjoy this motorcycle.

I'll be sad to see her go but have upgraded to an R1200GS - weighs less - in recognition of my advancing years!

looks nice aslan. My local bike shop - city m/cs is now the BMW agent & have a range of new BMWs. Far out they're a bit more comfortable looking than ol Schmidt

That looks to be a cheap price for a nice bike - good luck with the sale.

i rode a gs adventure a couple of weeks ago,the ol boxer is no less comfy and the adventure felt H U G E but i have had enough of the electrical issues i been having.Its been very good lately though maybe i have finally got it.I dont fully trust it tho and it s hard to get that outa my head
