Butter chicken is serious recovery food

The MTB wasn't shifting properly yesterday. Looks like the chain is poked. Put a better old one on and it's still not shifting properly.
I think there's slop in the shifter. The rear mech is almost new (4 years old)...

The 'crosser shifts by thought compared.

Whats the cassette look like & chain ring? If you had an better 'old' chain wouldn't that be buggered too? noone takes off a good chain & leaves it lying around... Shifters are a curse when they age.

Cassette and chain rings seem fine. The old chain was very stretched. The newer SRAM one is the same number of links and doesn't pull off the chain ring and show teeth...
The shifter goes either up or down through the box fine. Just not both...

Riding yesterday and it was jumping about a bit and the shifter was getting some slack occasionally, like it was slipping internally...
You can't feel positive detents when shifting to the bigger cassette rings.

    Hmmm...

I think the shifter is the culprit.
If I set it up to go up the box properly, from 9th to 1st, then it works perfectly.
    But...
Then you click t'other way to go back down and there's no cable movement. No shifting until the second click down.

Does this when set to go down the box properly too, won't shift up until the 2nd click...

Good view looking over Smiths Ford up the Maitai from the top of Big Hill Track, off the top of Bob Taylor Rd...
Some very nice motorbike tracks up there...

NordieBro came around and had a look at the TT.

Good thing too, as he had some "issues" with it himself

The guides were slightly cracked on the sides and one was fine on the surface.
The other was quite cracked and worn.
The back one had quite an indentation (about 4mm) where the tensioner arm pushed into it
The chain looked fine so we thought the previous owner may have replaced the cam chain but re-used the tensioners.
But we looped the chain over a screwdriver and put the new one beside it.
The old one was 4mm longer than the new one.
    That's 4mm in a loop, so 8mm longer overall

If the chain was replaced, it's got bad in 16,000km.

    I don't think it's been replaced...

A handful of lock washers, gaskets and o-rings to order and it should be back on the (off)road...

A bit of practice today for replacing the DR headset bearings.

I put a cheapy sealed cartridge unit in the pushie. Sooooo nice to have smooth, non-sticky steering

The DR ones are cheaper though

Yeah crazy that aye, there's obviously so many saps on pushbikes they saw us all coming.... Still that's a great excuse to spend more cash on motorcycle upgrades!

Went for my "usual" ride on the treadlie and either the rocks are smaller and smoother, or the new head set makes tracking between them much smoother.

It's going to be a huge difference on the DR when I do those ones...

so the XR has a leaky coolant hose, it's actually seeping out from between the layers, go figure....

and it's still got only 5 speeds... the TT350 envy continues...

I know where there's an unused TT. Or is he hiding it in the bus?
