They seemed like a jolly bunch, riding around drinking lashings of Coca-Cola etc but I noticed a few of them slouching.
Guess it's a lot harder to freak out squares now that it was in 1960s USA.
There's a really good book by Hunter S. Thompson called Hells Angels. He went and spent a lot of time hanging out with the original Californian group in around the same time that LIFE photo essay was done.
Really interesting look into how the first Angels lived, I don't know much about MC gangs but seems like the modern Angels are a completely different thing altogether.

Some pictures Hunter S. Thompson took while writing his book on HAs
Not a big H-D enthusiast but some of the 60s and 70s style Angels bikes were fucking cool.

So what's all the fascination of glorifying gang members? A bunch of criminals & nothing more. Why give them some sort of status?
Don't you look at my accountant.
He's the only one I've got.

'Outlaws' have always held the public's fascination. Wrong side of the tracks sort of thing. Heck even I got caught up in some shit a few years back with a well known gang here because to me it was interesting. Took me a while to realise for them it wasn't just 'interesting', it was their way of life.
