I know of a Central Otago Vineyard that in it's early years ... started selling it's wine. Well tried to. Nobody was buying it. A nearby Vineyard manager suggested putting the price UP to twice what they were asking.

They DID ... and sold it ALL. (in a very short space of time)

Perhaps ... tell the missus to put the pie price up. To cover the "possible" loss due to wastage. Especially those bikers with the flash shiny bikes. (which lets ME out)

Maybe something like this they could put on the wall, and just point to. They would not have to say anything.

How many bakeries have you worked in? How many family members own bakeries?
My mate owns Couplands if that helps - and where I work runs regular kiosk's for guests - to buy a decent pie from our supplier costs us $1.64 plus GST and that is priced on a national contract rate.

So to get your at least 200% profit we must charge $5.66 or more and to get your 400% profit $9.45

I know this to be true..

Any hoo. When faced with a customer, or potential customer stock withstanding, like the OP's better half I console myself with the thought that they must have a sad life faced with so many disappointments. Takes the umbrage out of their outburst.

if a pie is cooked in a microwave correctly often the product can be better than one that's sat in a pie warmer for a time. Correctly done a pie will take longer than just one setting and say 2 minutes as the meat and the crust require different cooking periods.
maybe it's time to get a programmable microwave and research the art and then aim for a couple of pies in the cabinet so people know that they're there and become a place knows for pies that taste like God's Sweat....

The pies are generally in the freezer so it takes awhile. Taste like Gods Sweat? That's some pie. Had a famous Kaeo Mutton Pie on Sunday, very substantial to the point of having to increase my tire pressures but too much cornflour.

I'd look at something like pizza pieces. microwave ones are pretty crap but add a bit of extra cheese and tomato/onion its not to bad.

However I agree with the op and a larger number of people these days are just so rude and when ignorance goes with it it makes you all the more headbashingly pissed off.

I've found small business's will be more eager to go out of their way to help ME ... by ME being polite. Than they would ... if I make a total asshole of myself.

I have a resolution to your pie problem........

Relocate your cafe to an area after a couple of km of twisties, then all the sprots bikes of the group will arrive and let you know that the cruisers are +30mins away

I really dont think its about the pies. Even though I do like pies. I think it is more about learning how to deal with the arrogant fuckwits out there that get all cut up about there being no pies. I have no people skills whatsoever, but would like to hear a few opinions how best to deal with fuckwits. Cos I am All for learning.

Small town, kick them out of the store for being abusive and see how they feel about no pie and no coffee either.

ummmm profit margin or net profit is actually calculated after cost of goods, expenses and other associated costs are taken out ................Net profit = cost of goods - SG&A or sales general and administration - interest taxes an depreciation. Commonly called EBITDA. You could mean gross margin, this is sales - cost of goods
You are incorrect in quoting profit margin, I find it very hard to believe that it would be 400% EBITDA

But that is what I would struggle with, kicking them out of the store in a manner that wont get me arrested.
