No because the 'colony' was a long time ago.

We do it better than them now. With less rules.

And we pass on the left without issue.

My speed is irrelevant. Obviously I am going faster than the vehicle ahead which is why I want to pass it. I treat undertaking like splitting, I will only do it at a few km/h faster than the vehicle I am passing purely not to spook them or become a target for a *555 call. Funny how nine times out of ten the said car indicates and pulls in to the left lane after I pass as if I have just woken them from their stupor which, to be honest, is what I think this is all about. IMO it should be common courtesy for anyone on a multi lane road to pull to the left if a vehicle is catching them up, regardless of what speed either vehicle is doing. Unfortunately courtesy is one of the things lacking on NZ roads, at least down this way.

    This guy nailed it.

Unfortunately courtesy, much like sense, is not so common.

That would rely on them using their mirrors and noticing a faster vehicle approaching, cant see it catching on myself

Speed is never irrelevant. Its the cause of this discussion indirectly.

And undertaking is what they do to dead people.

A *555 call wont get you imprisoned so dont worry about it. Only a wanker will call *555 for being passed on the left and they will be told its not illegal here.

If being passed on the left on a multi lane road 'spooks' someone they need to start walking everywhere - they are not suited to driving.

This isnt even an issue here - dont try to make it one.

We dont need another stupid law, we have enough. Esp. one that is very hard to police as it requires an officer to see the pass.
Or do you want cameras everywhere too??

I never said I wanted a law change. It just strikes me personally as very odd that someone will sit in the right hand lane when there is no traffic in the left hand lane. It shows a lack of consideration to the road users around you, or just a lack of thought about the task at hand. IMHO. Knowing the rules I will happily undertake someone. My comment re *555 was speed related. I would not overtake someone on the left with the same kind of speed differential I would on the right.

There is hope for the standard of KB 'trolling' yet. A far better job than the racisit/idiotic/offensive drivel that must generally be waded through when a kb troll turns up, this one actually gave me a few laughs.

As much as I hate to say it I think that people should have to re sit there license every 10 yrs. I would bet that 75% of people that have a current license would fail !

I think you guys should just leave this subject alone.

Despite what Madness says, I commute SH2 through Lower Hutt everyday and let me tell you, my ride home would be a lot slower if it wasn't for that empty left hand lane!

The last thing I need is for half those drivers to suddenly develop a little lane discipline.
