i would guess that with the shallow sump and std oil quantity, the relief valve is below oil level - or underwater if you like...
that would raise the blowoff pressure quite a bit I'd think.
put the valve on a right angle elbow so it lies horizontal.....or on your next build, drill and tap into the passage from above.

Now that I understand it, (thanks for confirming), it seems the sump needs to come off again fuck it all. The area under the valve doesn't have fuck all in the way of drainage. So level aside, it's always submerged once it has opened at all.

If you're pulling the sump, have a look at simply putting the valve on a U bend to get it above the waterline. from memory, there should be room there. Quick and dirty....

I'm guessing the oil pump is driven off the back of the clutch like Suzukis have for decades....VERY hard to break that drive...
The big kawas use a smallish shaft and usually an Oldham type coupling which is easy to break.

So the downstream side, the spring side of the valve isn't draining back to sump? Is a standard poppet valve?
Struggling to see how a high oil level can cause that, but I'm not familiar with the engine.

I need to have another look at a standard sump. It could be that it doesn't normally drain out the bottom of the cup where the valve is suspended. If that's the case, (no pun intended) then we're still good to go and will make a U bend when we get back up here as a precaution.
Gonna be mounting that fucking oil light higher and more in the way as soon as we get the thing out of the truck though!

180 bend in a piece of tube, with I think about an M12fine thread tapped in one end, and cut onto the other.
