It wont get to palmy until Friday so it will be next week before I hear the verdict I expect. The transporter driver said in his experience if the frame is bent the insurance company will just write it off....he was impressed by the road rash on the safari tank though

My thoughts are after seeing the damage..is they will write it off..

    But, stranger things have happened...

Still in Alabama..heading to Denver, Colorado tomorrow...It's going to be cold

How is the healing process progressing?

After all you have done for it, I feel your loss....the question is though...what will you get next?

If I listen to the 9 out of 10 comments I seem to be getting from anyone and everyone, I'll never own, ride, look at or sit on any motorcycle of any sort ever again. It maybe fortunate for me that I have this condition where as my wife points out from time to time..."You never listen", still it all starts to wear a little thin after a while. I don't know why but lots of people are really viscous about motorcycling and have no problems letting you know how they feel about them despite the fact you've just had a major crash which was no fault of your own. I pointed out to one chap that using his logic he should hand in his drivers licence and take a bus as there are loads more people hurt in car crashes than on bikes but that didn't go down too well.

I still think the 690 is the best platform for an adventure bike available so I'm stubbornly holding out that it will be fixed.

yeah...it is annoying but fuck em, I don't care that it's dangerous...which it is...but so is life in general.

I also agree that the 690 is the best platform...it really can do everything, and all of it pretty well. I do sometimes think about the new WR450's...road legal, still fast enough, lighter for harder core adventures/trail rides....but I still choose 690!! and the new 690 is truly 690....so maybe get the new one....

The WR450 is an awesome bike and I have thought long and hard about them but theres too much to do to them to make them comfy for adv riding and only 5 gears. If I was going to go smaller I'd probably look at a 530 EXC or maybe go cheap and do up a DRZ4hundy. If the CCM 450 adventure was available in NZ I think I'd have one in the garage already.

Apologies if this has been posted somewhere already but I just stumbled across this kit for the 690 - http://www.ktmbasel.ch/defy-series-k...vel-bike.html#

32ltrs in 3 tanks for an 800km range... crazy stuff, crazy price, but damn that's a good looking machine and still very light.

yeah...it sure looks clean and tidy...massive range, and would be the right option if travelling around the world. For us in NZ, eeking out 300K's seems to the number before really needing to find fuel. Dusty butt in a few weeks and is seems 290K is the max distance...so fueling options is top of mind at the moment

I can't work out what the currency conversion would be but 5000 somethings sounds expensive
